The SAT is an important test influential in students’ futures in college. It was held at the Aliso Niguel High School campus on Mon, Oct 14.
Students arrived early in the morning, and the school had set up the testing room in the gym to accommodate the large number of test takers while maintaining a quiet and focused environment.
The Scholastic Assessment Test is a multiple choice, computer-based test created and administered by the College Board. The test is two hours and 14 minutes long and consists of two reading comprehension and math sessions and it is widely used for college admissions in the United States. It assesses students’ readiness for college and provides colleges with a common data point to compare applicants.
High school students focus on accomplishing a good score on the SAT because of the primary reason that it gives colleges a standardized measure of their academic abilities.
The SAT has previously been held at other schools in the area for the Aliso Niguel students to take. However, 2024-2025 marks the first year that this test has been held at the ANHS campus.
In preparation for the SAT, Aliso Niguel High School offered a series of workshops and study sessions covering critical reading, mathematics and writing skills. The school provides additional access to practice tests and study material, helping students to familiarize themselves with the test format and question types.
Students who were interested in taking this test had signed up in the middle of Aug and were able to take this test on Monday.
Many students expressed relief and satisfaction after completing the test and are hopeful about the score results coming in approximately two weeks.
A difference in the test is that starting this year, the SAT has become fully online, similar to the Advanced Placement tests, and it marks a new beginning for the SAT.
While there was a lot of controversy with the new digital policy for the test, it seems to have gone very well without technical difficulties for the test takers.
Kyne Thompson, the advisor of the SAT and college board said, “It is really nice that we were able to have the test held here at Aliso which is something that has never been done before. The test went well and it’s amazing that students signed up and adjusted themselves to the new digital SAT policies.”
Following the SAT, the PSAT will be held on campus on Oct 26. The PSAT is a standardized test administered by the College Board and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in the United States.
The sign-ups for this test were locked on Sep 13 and students who are scheduled to take the PSAT are now preparing for the upcoming day.
The Aliso Niguel High School will once again allow for PSAT prep workshops and practice tests in order to prepare students for the test day.
For more information on upcoming SAT dates and resources, Thompson encourages parents and students to visit the school website or contact the counseling office for additional information.
We wish luck to all the bright students of Aliso Niguel and can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.
