As the school year progresses, more teachers offer a multitude of new Wolverine+ offerings throughout the week that are open to students of all grades. Some of the offerings include mindfulness, silent reading, karaoke, documentaries and open group work areas. Each offering is hosted on different days of the week and is available for students to schedule in Enriching Students.
Students can learn about which offerings are held from announcements sent out on canvas or through Enriching Students directly. Offerings that state “open” are available to any student; while the ones listed as “only” are for students that have that specific teacher.
Mrs. Wright offers “mindfulness” in which she spends short periods of time playing meditations. This time can be used to help students destress and practice mindfulness techniques. This offering is held 4 out of 5 days in the week. It tends to fill up quickly, so students interested are encouraged to schedule earlier in the week.
Daylen Phillips (12) says, “Mrs. Wright’s class is a great place to go throughout the week to take a break from schoolwork.”
Another offering is Mr. Lihme’s silent reading time. This is a place that students can go to catch up on any reading they would like to finish. To be included into this Wolverine+, a student must send a request through Enriching Students then state the book they plan on reading, and the Wolverine+ is only open to readers.
Recently, an offering for Civic Engagement Projects has been added, which is a Wolverine+ for students to begin their Civic Action Project or receive more information about the process. California offers the State Seal of Civic Engagement, so students now have the opportunity to graduate with it on their diploma. The Wolverine+ offering has been added to guide students on their journey to receiving the seal.
Raymond Harris (12) says, “This seems like an interesting opportunity, and I would definitely be interested in checking out the requirements and process to get the seal. It could look good on college applications.”
The physical education teachers often host open group work areas, where students from all grade levels and classes can come to collaborate. The offering is designed for students who may need to work with other students that they do not share classes with and in order to attend this Wolverine+, students must show their class schedule to prove they are passing all of their classes. It is held multiple days throughout the week by a variety of PE teachers.
Claire Tanaka (12) says, “I like to attend the group work Wolverine+ because it gives me the chance to work on homework from a multitude of classes. It also gives me the opportunity to meet with my friends who have different schedules from me.”
Finally, some teachers may offer a variety of open work for W+. This is for any student that may need some help from a different teacher outside of their schedule. Oftentimes, these offerings are on Fridays and are hosted by Ms. Lusar and Ms. Tinker.
Wolverines of all grades are granted countless Wolverine+ opportunities to choose from this 2024-2025 school year.
