The Aliso Niguel boys water polo team recently played a tough game against San Juan Hills High School on Oct. 17.
The game took place at the opponents pool. The boys fought until the last minute yet came up short on the scoreboard with a final score of 5-10, a win for San Juan Hills.
During their season, the boys played rival teams such as San Clemente High School, Capistrano Valley High School, Beckman High School and San Juan Hills High School.
The team played against San Clemente High School on Oct. 15. It was a rough game for the wolverines, with the final score being a 6-12 loss.
The boys went up against Capistrano Valley High School on Oct. 10. There was a great turnout for both teams, the bleachers on both sides cheered the players on. Sadly, the wolverines were unable to keep up with Capistrano Valley and finished the game with a loss of 6-10.
The team played Beckman High School on Oct. 3. The Wolverines fought hard the entirety of the game and although there were not many goals by both teams, Aliso was able to maintain the lead and won the game 7-4.
Three-year varsity athlete, Gavin Gabal (11), states, “It was a good end to the first half of league games and it kept us hopeful to just continue…and to get better while preparing for CIF.”
At the start of the new month, the Wolverines played San Juan Hills High School. The game was difficult for both teams, but San Juan Hills prevailed in the end, with a score of 6-12.
The team played San Clemente for the first time this league season on Sept. 26. Both teams scored multiple goals each quarter, yet Aliso was unable to keep up with the goals San Clemente was scoring. The final result of the game ended in a 18-13 loss for Aliso.
The first official game played in league for the 2024 season was against Capistrano Valley High School. The Wolverines warmed up, mentally and physically prepared for the game. Both teams racked up points and Aliso won with a close score of 15-10.
As of now, the Aliso Niguel boys water polo team has won 17 out of the 26 games they have played this season. Having won one of the five games played in the Sea View league, the team now rests at fourth place.
The last game of league takes place on Oct. 22 against Beckman High School.
Captain Gabe Widarto (12) states, “This game will be heated…it’s a must win if the team wants to go to CIF.”
The result of this game will determine if Aliso will head on to CIF or play their final game in hopes of continuing on from a bid win.
