Dr. Brown is creating a CUSD Student Advisory Board of two to three students from each high school, where meetings will be held throughout the district for the rest of the year to get students involved.
The group chosen and accepted from the application will serve as the student voice to District leadership, where students will meet with Dr. Brown monthly to discuss issues and share ideas.
This opportunity is only available to juniors and seniors. The meetings will be held at high schools throughout the District, so the applicants will need a reliable source of transportation. However, you will be advised where the meetings will take place in advance.
It is recommended for a student to apply fast, keeping in mind that the spots are limited. The board is looking for reliable students who can manage their time wisely, and demonstrate ideal leadership skills, and responsibility. However, no experience is required.
The purpose of CUSD advisory board meetings is to act as a source for students to provide input, feedback, and recommendations to school administrators, faculty, or student organizations on various issues affecting the student body.
These boards often serve as a bridge between students and the institution’s leadership, ensuring that student voices are heard and considered in the district’s decision-making processes.
The CUSD advisory board makes sure to represent student concerns by conveying issues or concerns raised by their peers, such as campus safety, mental health services, or inclusion.
The advisory board can serve various benefits for students. It would look great on college applications, transcripts, and on your resume in general. Students will be able to unlock excellent opportunities in the future.
Adding this opportunity to your college profile can show colleges you truly care about education. Colleges are interested in students who care about their campus, those who want to make a difference, and are involved with the community.
By getting involved with the district, a student can learn to develop leadership skills by participating in meetings, organizing events, and representing the school. Leadership is a fundamental skill for life as well.
Joining the board offers the benefit of networking, where a student will have the opportunity to meet and collaborate with other motivated students, school administrators, and leaders in the community.
If you have any concerns with our school and have ideas on how to improve the district, joining the board will ensure your ideas are taken into consideration. Your voice will have a direct impact and truly make a difference. You’ll grow personally by taking on responsibilities, facing challenges, and working towards meaningful goals.
When applying for the board, you want to highlight your qualifications, experiences, and commitment to improving the school community. Some ways a student can stand out is to mention GPA, any past leadership experiences, extracurriculars, community service, work experience, achievements, letters of recommendation, personal statements, etc.
For more information or concerns regarding the application process, students can visit the “calprepcusd” page on Instagram. It is recommended that students follow the Instagram to receive updates regarding the school district.
