Aliso Niguel’s annual Community Night brings together elementary schoolers throughout the Capistrano Unified School District for a night to remember.
On Sept. 20, at 6 p.m., kids from seven different feeder elementary schools arrived at the basketball courts to be checked in for the event.
Students and principals from Bergeson, Canyon Vista, Don Juan Avilla, Laguna Niguel, Moulton, Oak Grove and Wood Canyon elementary schools attended the event. Along with the elementary school students, the Associated Student Body from both Don Juan Avilla Middle School and Aliso Viejo Middle School helped organize the event.
Our Commissioner of Community Relations, Christain Gill (12) and our Senior Director of Recognition, Finn Sullivan, organized the event and got in touch with the feeder schools and middle schools. Likish Velineni (12) had planned the event for the past two years, so he also assisted in hosting the event.
When asked what the goal of Community Night is, Gill replies, “The goal of Community Night is to give the elementary schools a taste of what a high school football game is like and to make it enjoyable for them.”
Velineni adds, “The purpose is to connect the elementary and middle schools to high school communities since a bunch of them will be future Wolverines.”
At the event, the students from the feeder schools ran through the ANHS inflatable, just like the football team does before the kickoff. The elementary school students were followed by their school’s mascot and principal.
The ASB students from the middle schools created posters for the students to encourage them on their journey across the football field.
In addition to the elementary school students learning about high school football games, the middle school ASB students were led through the process of a football game by our high school ASB students. They were taught protocols, cheers and how they set up the games.
Overall, Community Night was a big win for the elementary school students, middle school’s ASB, our high school’s ASB and our beloved football team.
