The National Honors Society (NHS) at Aliso Niguel High School is setting ambitious goals and visions for the current 2024-2025 school year.
The NHS at ANHS has still maintained similarities from last year and continues to use the same requirements these past few years to be able to qualify for the club. NHS has always maintained a principle of fostering a community for the scholars who are a part of the club.
These scholars have to meet rigorous requirements to get in as the NHS prides itself on having members who are not only academically involved but also involved in the community. NHS helps bring boundless opportunities to its members and is a great way to get involved as well as make tributes to the community.
Laurel Thompson (11) comments, “For NHS, I hope they give us volunteering opportunities more often and increase ways to participate. As for goals, I hope to see more friends join the club that did not apply last year so it can keep expanding and there’s more to do.”
NHS aims to have a more integrated and stronger connection among its members and for members to take accountability for their GPA and meet requirements.
Mrs. McClellan states, “As far as visions, I would like to see the members interact more instead of just showing up and individually doing community service, so we have plans to do a couple of club meetings such as socials so that members can interact with everybody instead of just their group of friends. There also will be a little more accountability for members to actually check their grades and still maintain a good GPA, showing up for meetings and doing their do’s and hours. Those are some changes I want to make and I also want to make the NHS a little more fun; therefore we are doing a beach cleanup and after that, we are going to have a bonfire as a social and a social during finals week as a club, so it is not just an academic club but to make the club more integrated and have more of a social aspect that other clubs do.”
This year, the club plans to offer more collaborative volunteer projects, allowing members to work together on meaningful initiatives that benefit both the community and members. With these changes, NHS is committed to helping to create a well-rounded experience that is built on academic excellence, community involvement and personal growth for all its members.
