As fall officially begins, a variety of new movies are all scheduled for release in the coming weeks. A few select movies show incredible potential with extremely talented casts, and old movies are being re-released in local theaters for a limited time only.
From Francis Ford Copolla, who notably directed “The Godfather,” “Megalopoli” is an eccentric sci-fi drama following a conflict between Caesar Catillina, a creative man who plans to transform the city New Rome into a glittering utopia, and Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who displays an unwavering determination to prevent the city’s progression.
The visual aspects of the movie have a futuristic and dystopian feel, while also appearing to be influenced by the Jazz Age culture of the 1920s. The main cast includes Adam Driver, Grace Vanderwall, Shia Lebeouf and Aubrey Plaza. This movie will be released in theaters on Sept. 27.
Another upcoming movie is the highly anticipated sequel to Todd Phillips’ “Joker,” “Joker: Folie à Deux.” This movie will cover the period of time where Arthur Fleck/Joker, played by Joaquin Phoenix, meets Harley Quinn, played by Lady Gaga, in a mental institution, where the two develop their widely renowned sinister romance.
When asked about “Joker: Folie à Deux,” Aeryn Garrick (12) shared, “I’m excited to see it because I love Lady Gaga, and I’ve never seen her in a movie before. I can’t wait to see how she expands her career!”
While “Joker,” which came out in 2019, was simply a thriller/crime movie, the sequel will be a musical/thriller. Those who have heard Lady Gaga sing know that this is sure to be an interesting development, as she is extremely talented. This movie will be released on Oct. 4.
Also coming up is an exciting re-release! Just in time for the month of Halloween, Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is being brought back to theaters for a day on Oct. 11.
Korvin Fune (12), stated “I’m probably looking forward to it most because I’ve never been able to watch it in theaters before so I feel like a lot of the shots will look really nice on a big screen. I also think the soundtrack will sound incredible with movie theater speakers.”
“The Nightmare Before Christmas” is a classic Halloween movie, originally released in 1993. It is a beautiful depiction of stop-motion animation that has been a part of the childhoods of many. Students who enjoy spooky themes, lively characters and a compelling storyline should make sure to go see the re-release of “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
All of these movies will be available at the Aliso Viejo Regal Edwards Theater on their specific release dates. Seeing as the Regal Edwards theater is so close to Aliso Niguel High School, students and their friends can, and should, plan to see these upcoming movies.
