Aliso Niguel High School recently held its Back to School Night last Thursday to foster a strong connection between teachers, students and parents. The event provided parents with the opportunity to step into their children’s shoes and see into their academic life.
Parents could meet faculty and staff, view their children’s classes and be provided with information on the curriculum for the school year. Back to school night is the perfect opportunity for parents to feel connected to their students and the academic community.
Vice Principal Mrs. Hosseini provided insight: “Most importantly, we want everybody to feel that their teachers and our staff are partners with our parent community in educating and caring for their children.”
The event started at 5:30 p.m. in the theater for the senior families that offered more information on college and college applications. The college application process can be a difficult time for students and parents, so providing guidance is an effective way to ensure students have the best experience possible.
Parents must know the importance of application deadlines, required documents, school requirements, financial aid and scholarships, along with the many other aspects of the college application process.
At 6:20 p.m. the parents would make their way to their student’s zero period classes. The parents followed their student’s schedules and spent 15 minutes in each class.
During each visit, teachers would show presentations providing parents with information regarding class expectations, course work and support methods.
Mrs. Hosseini says, “Parents should expect to feel that their children are with somebody who truly cares about them and their education. Who’s going to help them learn, and they should hopefully walk away with a sense of what the curriculum looks like.”
ASB student, Sienna Stand (12), added that, “Meeting teachers and talking to them should help parents to feel more comfortable with who is educating their kids every day.”
Back to School Night is the perfect way to unite Aliso Niguel families and teachers together to accomplish the shared goal of educating students to the best possible ability.
ASB student Finn Sullivan (12) shared that, “We are bringing the community together. We are bringing everybody that has a shared common place together, which is Aliso Niguel High School. I mean obviously the parents all have kids that go here or went here. They all have something in common which creates a strong connection to the Aliso Niguel community.”
Back to School Night is important to the community because of informational purposes and academic related community bonding. If students or parents have any questions and were not addressed during back to school night or that were not able to attend, they should email or visit their guidance counselor during school hours to receive assistance.
