With the new school year comes a new Associate Student Body Council, ready to enhance and spread school spirit through various on-campus events.
This year’s council involves ASB President, Drake Smith (12); ASB Vice President, Sierra Yoon (12); ASB Secretary, Katherine Verrando (12); ASB Treasurer, Likish Velineni (12); Senior Director of Activities, Faith Huebner; Senior Director of Communications, Ari Bilewitz; and Senior Director of Recognition, Finn Sulivan.
This year’s Senior Class Council is made up of Class President, Kristy Kim, and Class Vice President, Sienna Stand.
ASB President, Drake Smith, shared his goals for ASB. “To kick off the year, we won the most prestigious award given to an ASB in Orange County once a year. My goal is to carry that same spirit and drive that we had at OCL throughout the school year. We want our school’s spirit to be inspiring! I want every student to feel engaged, seen and sought after. My goal is to serve our student body to the best of our ASB’s ability. To continue to build a strong Wolverine Community that’s ALL IN.”
ASB was recognized over the summer at their camp for being recipients of the 2024 Darrell Stillwagon award. This prestigious award is given to a school each year at ASB camp, that exemplifies the best spirit and integrity of leadership of the 58 OC high schools in attendance. This was ASB’s first time winning the award since 2013.
ASB also recently won the 2024 National Gold Council of Excellence Recognition from the National Association of Student Councils. NASC is proud to honor student councils for implementing a strong leadership program, functioning ethically and responsibly, and engaging others in leadership, spirit, civic and service activities.
Activities Director, Ms. Ross, shared, “All in all, I am just so excited for this year! This ASB group (the largest in school history – 61 student leaders strong!) is so passionate about making this year the best year ever for our student body! It’s only my second year but I can already tell this year is going to be awesome, just the energy on campus this first week, and the excitement at the game on Friday, something special is happening and it’s incredible to see!”
ASB has already made changes around campus, including the removal of having wristbands at football games and expanding the student section. They also look forward to holding new events such as rally runs and after school activities to further engage students.
Ms. Ross concluded that, “Ultimately, we want kids to be at events and be involved, so if there are ways we can improve we always welcome feedback. We do our best to plan events that cater to the general student population but if there’s something that can make them even better we are happy to engage in discussions. So don’t hesitate to reach out to an ASB member, we are here to support!”
The new ASB council is composed of dedicated and hard-working students who are devoted to promoting school spirit and student engagement.
