As the 2024 season progresses, Aliso Niguel’s Girls Volleyball team continues to dominate the courts as they have already beaten Beckman, San Clemente, Dana Hills and more. The team is also currently placed first in the South Coast League with an overall record of 16 wins and four losses.
Three of those victories were League games as these volleyball athletes currently hold a League record of three wins and one loss.
Head Coach Danet is leading the team to victory. Danet shared, “We need to be able to handle losses and return to the drawing board to play some good volleyball.”
Assisting with Danet’s leadership this year are team captains Macey Smith (12) and Gigi Green (12). Smith, who is the libero, stated, “It’s making me better while pushing my teammates.”
The team’s first League game was a home game played against Trabuco Hills. The girls won this game with a score of 3-1, securing their first League win of the season.
These athletes then went on to play against San Clemente in an away game and won again with a score of 3-0. In their second home game, they played against San Juan Hills where the players won for a third time with a score of 3-1.
However, this winning streak ended on Sept. 26 as the team went against Dana Hills. On this eventful Tuesday evening, the team lost 3-2 in their home gym.
Adding on to these eventful games, the team shared many fun celebrations along the way. They began their season in Santa Barbara where they experienced plenty of team bonding as they competed in a tournament.
Aliso’s Girls Volleyball team also just recently enjoyed their Senior Night on Tuesday Sept. 17. In addition to Smith and Green, the team celebrated Nadia Taraman (12), Addison Breymann (12) and Jillian McElroy (12). Family and friends showed up with leis, gifts, posters and flowers to celebrate these hard-working players.
The student section at their games has also been growing in size, attraction and popularity as the season progresses. Wally the Wolverine, along with Aliso Niguel’s ASB, has rallied up a lot of support and applause for this beloved team. The Aliso Niguel Den has been filled with students and families coming to support the Girls Volleyball team. As the bleachers continue to fill up, people show up dressed to impress in themes that include “White Out” and “Frat Bro.”
This team at Aliso Niguel has a history of success and victory as they’ve won the title of League Champions in the years 2013 to 2015 and 2019 to 2022. They’ve also earned the titles of CIF Finalists and Champions. As of right now, the team is focused on working hard in preparation on and off the court to secure some titles for this current 2024 season.
