Senior Sunrise, a special event exclusive to the senior class, was held on Sept. 23 on Aliso Niguel High School’s football field. The senior students lined up at 6 a.m. near the football stadium entrance to receive a free serving of crepes and choice of drink, before heading to the football field and meeting up with their friends.
On the football field, seniors were allowed to bring and set up blankets on the turf, making it an extra cozy experience as they enjoyed their breakfast of crepes, time with friends and watching the sunrise with their peers.
The Associated Student Body at ANHS provided arts and crafts activities for the senior students to partake in. The two main activities included card writing and thumb stamping. The card writing activity had senior students write out what they wanted to do in the future, and the cards written will be delivered towards the end of the school year. The thumb stamping activity had senior students paint their thumbs in a color of their choice, then stamp their thumbs onto a large sheet of paper and sign their names next to the thumbprint they created.
ASB members were also serving four beverages, including hot cocoa, orange juice, mango nectar and water. There was a catering stand for crepes where employees made crepes fresh on the spot for the senior students. The senior students were allowed to choose from various fillings and toppings, including strawberries, bananas, Nutella, crème brûlée and whipped cream. The seniors topped off their crepes at a self-serve station with different syrups, including caramel, chocolate, strawberry and condensed milk.
Many seniors took turns taking photos with a cardboard cut-out sign that read “Senior Sunrise.” There was also a small backdrop where senior students could pose with their friends and take pictures.
The Senior Sunrise event itself allowed senior students to have a memorable moment together as a graduating class.
Amitis Yaghini (12) said, “We want to spend as much time as we can with our friends while we still can, but since a lot of us are busy outside of school, there are not a lot of opportunities to be able to spend time together. I think it is nice to have the school plan out these events and be provided a space and time to be able to see friends and hang out with each other.”
Senior Sunrise is symbolic of the beginning of senior year, as Senior Sunset is symbolic of the end of senior year.
Kristy Kim (12), 2025 Senior Class President, said, “I think Senior Sunrise is a great class bonding event, and it really helped the senior class become more connected.”
The sun was barely visible as the weather was mostly cloudy. The senior students got to witness the sky gradually get lighter into the morning while they spent time on the football field. The event concluded around 8 a.m.
