Miracles for Kids is a non-profit organization based in Irvine, California. Their mission is to help families with critically ill children fight homelessness, hunger, bankruptcy and depression.
They have helped more than 2,100 families from 21 different countries by paying their bills, helping with housing costs, providing healthcare and counseling and paying for basic necessities.
A few years ago, Miracles for Kids became a club here at Aliso Niguel High School. The presidents, Melody Moeinzadeh (12) and Kayley Song (12) do an amazing job running the club.
Mrs. Akbarzadeh, the club advisor, says, “I think it’s a very noble mission… as kids go on to become adults it’s important to be watching for and supporting these kinds of causes.”
Moeinzadeh and Song work closely with the Miracles for Kids organization to ensure they are doing their best to help the cause.
“We do a lot of super fun volunteer activities including painting, writing cards, and tutoring,” shared Moeinzadeh.
The club often fundraises and does activities during the holiday season, when families need the most help. Last December, the club had a huge Christmas Toy Drive where they collected over three shopping carts full of toys.
Last year, they also created welcome boxes for new kids to the Miracle for Kids program. Additionally, the club appeared on NBC LA News to represent the organization.
Their meetings are held on the second Thursday of every month, in Mrs. Akbarzadeh’s room 310. They typically discuss and present upcoming volunteer opportunities. They also feature highlights from past events and share snacks with those who attended. Last year, club members were impressed with their organization and leadership skills. Moeinzadeh and Song presented well-put-together slideshows that contained information about their volunteer opportunities. The room was always packed during their meetings, and occasionally people had to stand because there weren’t enough seats.
Moeinzadeh says, “I’m also responsible for advertising our club, leading club meetings, and spreading our message on campus.”
Moeinzadeh also takes on the responsibility of reaching out to the Miracles for Kids coordinators to plan events. She helps to create different opportunities for members of the club to participate in. She works closely with her officers to ensure smooth sailing, alongside her co-president Song.
“[Moeinzadeh] was a former student of mine and she was fantastic, she [is] very organized and incredibly smart,” says Mrs. Akbarzadeh.
During the most recent club rush, the club was successful and received many new and returning members.
