The Aliso Niguel football team continues to ride high heading into this season’s league play.
Since the win against the El Toro Chargers, the Wolverines have improved to two wins and zero losses in the season. The Wolverines have played against the Chino High School Cowboys, the Capo Valley Cougars and the Dominguez High School Dons.
In gameweek three, the Chino Hills Cowboys came from the Inland Empire to play the Wolverines at home. Aliso were the favorites at the beginning of the game, as Chino had zero wins and two losses, getting blown out by Santa Monica 0-26, and Summit High School 0-33.
Aliso certainly did not disappoint in front of the home crowd on teal night. Wolverine star Jarrett Sabol (12) rushed for a career high 223 yards as well as picking up two touchdowns on the dominant night, seeing the Wolverines extend their record to 3-0 by winning the game 33-14.
The following week, Aliso traveled down south across the 5 Freeway to match up against the Capistrano Valley Cougars. Capo Valley were 2-1 before the matchup. The Cougars traveled to the islands of Hawaii in week zero to play against Moanalua of Honolulu in which came out with a victory, as well as a victory against Eastlake, before falling to Huntington Beach. The Cougars were still favored to win, with them being placed in Division four CIF the year before, while the Wolverines were in Division eight.
Aliso came up with a valiant effort, however got defeated by the Cougars 14-35. Quarterback, Carter Vestermark (12), was the only man who put up touchdowns for the Wolverines.
Aliso most recently played against the Dominguez High School Dons. Dominguez came down from Compton, however did not get a happy bus ride home. The Wolverines put on a great display of football, getting back into the win column, beating the Dons 35-15. This was the biggest win of the season for the Wolverines with both offense and defense helping out. Jarrett Sabol put up two touchdowns, while Max Blasing (12) and Logan Wagner (12) came up with the two interceptions for the Wolverines.
Wolverine Offensive Lineman, Ashton Hughes (12), spoke to the Growling Wolverine about the loud student section which propelled the team to victory on community night.
“I thought the fans were electric and seeing the whole community come out to watch us play gave us the extra hype and fired up the whole team.”
The Wolverines have a bye week this week, and are looking forward to arguably the biggest game of the season against the Dana Hills Dolphins. Ashton gives detail on their preparations for the big game.
“This bye week we have been getting our strength back up and also have been watching a lot of films. We have been doing practices and getting used to their defense and offensive plays.”
Senior Lineman, Adam Jubran, is also excited for the upcoming game against the Dolphins.
“I’m super excited to play our rivals and come out with a win, just like how we did my sophomore year.”
