On Friday, Aug. 30, the Intramurals Committee, which is a part of the Associated Student Body, held the first lunchtime activity where students were able to receive cookies by guessing the song correctly. The activity was held near the junior lunch tables.
The Intramurals Committee set up a table with several packages of store-bought chocolate chip cookies in plastic containers. There were a good number of cookies in the packages, so there was more opportunity for more students to win a cookie.
The event featured a speaker which played popular music, including “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar and other rap and pop music. Each song only played for a few seconds and students gathered around the area to test their knowledge of music. The students who guessed correctly were awarded chocolate chip cookies.
However, there was one instance where a girl took a box of chocolate chip cookies without guessing the song. Despite this, the event still went well and a crowd of people were guessing the songs during the duration of the event.
This lunchtime activity was also held last year when the Intramural Committee held the same Guess the Song for a cookie event. However, this year the event was held earlier in August rather than in January.
Brandon Perez (11) shared, “I thought it was really fun and they were playing good songs which made it much more enjoyable. Also being awarded a cookie made it more fun.”
Many students turned out for the event and there was a lot of enthusiasm for both the event and the football game that would occur later that day. Students also seem to have hope for other fun lunchtime activities that will help elevate the high school experience and school year.
Cassidy Monsod (11) shared, “I went to the Guess the Song activity because I saw my friends get a cookie and I wanted to try out the game too. The lunchtime activity got me hyped for the away football game tonight since they mentioned how fun it would be while we listened and sang to the songs.”
