As the new year has begun, many changes have been brought to Aliso Niguel High School, including the opening of the school OCASA in the portables.
The opening of the charter school has caused some major changes here at Aliso Niguel High School.
With empty classrooms from retired teachers and lack of space, there has been lots of moving around for some teachers.
This year a total of four teachers and a band storage room have all been relocated somewhere new on the campus.
Teachers such as Mrs. Sepe, Mr. Burger, Mr. Lihme and Miss Erhard, have made many new adjustments to get used to their new classrooms.
Although this change is difficult for some, some teachers like finding the light of the situation.
“I love my new room, I’m right next to Miss Torres, across from Ms Villasenor and so much closer to the library, it’s great!” Shares Mrs Erhard, an AP Lang and English 1 teacher.
These classroom changes have truly brought all teachers and students closer as they can easily locate one another across the hall, and are closer to resources such as restrooms and the library.
The changes of the classroom has brought unity to the English hall, bringing collaboration of all teachers much more accessible with this new close distance.
The new classrooms have also led to creative decor. Among teachers such as Mrs Sepe and Miss Erhard, they have created a fun work environment where they use their creativity to make a welcoming work environment for students while still having their own personal spin.
Amongst the excitement of new rooms, students have been reflecting on some negative aspects.
Kayana Coachman (11) shares, “As much as I love having a lot of my classrooms closer to each other now, it does get a little confusing because these classrooms I’ve been going to the past three years to visit teachers have all now changed, which made the first week of school really hard to locate some places, but overall I love having all my teachers nearby”.
These new changes have made it difficult to visit old teachers or find some iconic classrooms where students used to spend a lot of their time, such as Mrs. Sepe, who used to be in the back portables.
Some downsides of these changes have also made many reflect on their gratitude of being moved.
Miss. Erhard also shares, “My new room was Mrs. Klasna’s old room, and she was the most incredible person ever, so I’m stoked to have it after her”.
A classroom is such a simple environment yet it can truly impact a learning experience.
Although a classroom may just sound boring to students, it’s really a place that holds many memories, some that will even last a lifetime.
