The Aliso Niguel High School’s mascot for years, Wally the Wolverine, enhances school spirit at every ANHS event he appears in and unites the school community as one, helping students feel a connection to each other as well as to the school.
On Friday, Aug. 23, Wally attended the first home football game of this season. At this game, Wally assisted Aliso’s Associated Student Body to get the student section thrilled and ready to support the school’s football team. During the game, Wally cheered for the cheerleaders, football players and marching band while hanging out in the student section.
Wally’s support and excitement rubs off on the spectators at the games to cheer for the hard working athletes on the football field and track. Additionally, Wally helps boost student morale and participation in school events.
ASB President Drake Smith (12) explains, “The purpose of Wally the Wolverine showing up at events is to invoke school spirit and provide a sense of connection to the school’s history.”
Wally attends all the major school events. These events include pep rallies, football games, basketball games, welcome back activities and many more.
Mrs. Ross, the Activities Director at Aliso Niguel High School, says, “I think it’s cool to have Wally at big school wide events.”
Every year, different ASB students hop into the costume for all kinds of school events like registration and football games, but they are currently looking for students to have the job more permanently.
If any students are interested in becoming the student behind the mask, please contact Mrs. Ross for details on responsibilities and expectations. Sadly, our mascot is getting a bit old and worn out. During this school year, there might be a mascot change, but the idea is still up in the air and will be decided some time in the future.
