Aliso Niguel’s juniors and seniors celebrated prom on Saturday, May 4 at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
This year, the theme of the dance was “Mamma Mia!” Although the date of the dance was set at the beginning of the school year, the theme was announced in March at the Clash of the Classes pep rally and ticket sales began later that day
The class of 2024 organized a senior picture spot at the San Juan Capistrano train tracks. This meeting spot before the dance allowed the seniors to take photos with their classmates to commemorate their last school dance together.
The venue at the golf club was set up with a wide, open layout for students to roam freely throughout the night. There was a designated area with tables and chairs for those who wanted to chat with friends and a big area for dancing.
The DJs got the floor energetic fairly early into the night and the large dance floor allowed everyone who wanted to dance the space to do so. For the most part, the music mixes were well-liked by the students and kept them dancing throughout the night.
Madeleine Gougeon (12) shares “My favorite part about tonight was the dancing and how good the music was.”
Besides dancing, students could enjoy taking photos with a date or friends to capture the moment. In addition to the usual digit ring-light photo stations, there was a station to take “photo booth style” pictures and receive two copies of the photo strips. Students were allowed to take as many photos as they wished, giving them the perfect keepsakes to remember the night.
There were plenty of beverages served including water, lemonade, and a variety of latte drinks at the coffee bar. At the tables, there was also a selection of desserts and pastries to choose from.
Although the gambling tables were notably missing from this year’s prom, there was the karaoke stage that stayed busy throughout the night.
Towards the end of the night, ASB Commissioner of Special Events Rachel Sleeth (12) and Junior Class President Katherine Verrano (11) announced this year’s prom court royalty. Sign-ups began on April 18 and the voting closed on May 3. All upperclassmen were eligible to participate in prom court voting.
Cadence Van Hoften (12) and Owen Burdian (12) were named this year’s prom queen and king.
Cadence comments on her win, saying, “I was just so excited. I just wanted to win with Owen because we’re dating. I think it was more fun to run together than to win. I wasn’t expecting anything, but it was super fun.”
Prom night was a success here at Aliso, allowing students to celebrate the end of the school year, and for seniors, begin their final farewells.
