The Wolverine’s Varsity Baseball team played against San Juan Hills on April 12 at home. The team crushed their opponents and ended the game winning 6-0.
Starting the off game, in the bottom of the first inning, the wolverines scored three runs. Austin Hayes (11), with a .250 AVG, batting average, aided the team with one at bat by hitting an RBI, runs batted in. Jarrett Sabol (11), with a .500 AVG was credited with two RBI’s after his plate appearance later in the bottom of the first.
The third inning ended with Brandon Schaff (11) left standing on second. Schaff had a good game leading the team having a .500 AVG.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Alex Hamada (11) hit a single with a .333 AVG and later successfully ran to second base after Jonathan Naldolski (12) bunted a single with a .250 AVG. With a player on first and second, Zach Boynton (12) hit to right field and recorded two RBI’s with an impressive 1.000 AVG and a 1.000 OBP, on base percentage. Boynton was tagged out on second prior to Sabol and Tyler Covington (12) striking out, ending the fourth inning.
At the top of the fifth, pitcher Brandon Tatch (12) threw an unintentional hit-by-pitch and clipped the batsmen’s elbow. This resulted in San Juan being awarded first base, with players on second and first base. Tatch had a rough game pitching four hits and two strikeouts. He pitched for six out of the seven innings and had a .333 AVG and a .500 OBP.
Following the walk, shortstop Hamada earned an assist by catching a ground ball and throwing it to Hayes at third base. Hayes recorded a PO, putout, by tagging out a runner at third before passing the ball to Schaff at first. Schaff also earned a PO resulting in an impressive double play for the Wolverines.
In the fifth inning, no runs were scored by either team. In the bottom of the sixth inning, with Boynton on third and Tatch on second, Sabol hit the ball to left infield. On the account of an error by San Jaun’s shortstop, Boynton was able to run home, leaving the Wolverines up 6-0.
Tyler Geivet (12) pitched for the final inning and pitched one strikeout. The game ended following the top of the seventh inning leaving the Wolverines with a win.
Skilled players Jarett Sabol, Christian Croy and Brandon Schaff had highest batting averages, all had an AVG of .500 showing an immense amount of capability on the field.
This season, Nadolski deserves an honorable mention considering that he is the player with the highest AVG and OBP on Aliso’s varsity team. Nadolski leads with a .396 AVG and a .481 OBP.
The Aliso Niguel baseball team has proven to be capable of demonstrating a strong skill set and drive on the field and currently has a 15-7 win ratio. The team is also rated first in the sea view league with a 5-3 ratio and will likely qualify for the 2024 CIF Division III Championships.
