The Aliso Niguel boys volleyball team went up against rival Tesoro High School on April 9.
It was a close call for both teams during the first set, however, Tesoro ended up scoring enough to take the first set as their own.
During the second set, Tesoro took the lead on the scoreboard right away. Throughout the set, Tesoro continuously scored, leaving Aliso behind. In the end, Tesoro won the set once again, leaving Aliso with much recovery.
For the boys, this next set determined if the game would continue or if it would end with Tesoro taking the win home.
Deciding to change the lineup, Aliso subbed in other players who usually do not get as much playing time. This alteration allowed Aliso to bring new plays in and surprise Tesoro with their team spirit.
Unpredictably, Aliso took this set into their own hands and led ahead of Tesoro by a few points. As the Aliso players started to get more into the rotation, the boys were able to successfully score many points and leave Tesoro in the dust.
By just a couple of points, Aliso was able to secure the win for this set; allowing the game to continue.
At this point during the game, the set score between Aliso Niguel and Tesoro was 2-1. The following set determined if the game would continue in a tie between the two teams or a win for Tesoro.
Aliso started the second set in the lead with a few points ahead of Tesoro. It was a tough set for both teams as the pressure was on. In the end, Tesoro prevailed with a set score of 3-1.
Nathan Joseph (11), the outside hitter, states, “I feel that this past game against Tesoro was the best we’ve played as a team, we played a really good team and even if we lost, we still managed to hold our own and win a set.”
Aliso fought greatly for this game and despite the rest period during spring break, the boys gave it their all and plan on continuing to do so at their following games.
The previous games Aliso has played this season were against Trabuco Hills High School, San Clemente High School, San Juan Hills High School, Edison High School, Junipero Serra Catholic High School, Corona Del Mar and St. Margaret’s High School.
