As summertime approaches, Aliso Niguel High School’s Job Board offers incredible work opportunities to kick start student’s careers.
The Job Board sits outside of the Aliso’s Library. The encased poster board holds a multitude of fliers, all advertising different potential jobs for students at Aliso Niguel High School.
As the summer season approaches, new job opportunities have emerged. The job board allows students to see potential jobs, the requirements of the positions and the starting pay.
Sammy Zeitawi (10) is interested in finding a job for the summer. When asked if he thought the job board and the ample information it provides would be helpful, he said “Yeah, that would be very nice.”
Of the posted jobs, some are very exciting as the positions are specifically designed for leaving seniors. These roles are ones of high responsibility levels, but could give some graduates the head start they need for their professional careers.
Of all the currently posted jobs, the Kia Assistant Inventory Manager is one of, if not the most, coveted potential position. The Kia Dealership in Mission Viejo is looking for a recent graduate to fill a ‘professional job.’
The position can be part time or full, doing jobs that range from maintaining cars to keeping track of inventory. Advertised as a job that requires the worker to think for themselves, this opportunity may be what leads to an even broader range of potential sales jobs in the future, breaking free from the stereotypical retail jobs many graduates and college students must settle for.
Other jobs require more humanities based specifications, such as tutoring. Tutoring allows similarly aged people to provide aid and a more understandable way to digest information than some teachers can. Therefore, it is important that those who are helping are properly educated and know how to help.
Businesses such as theCoderSchool are looking for coders who can teach others for two to 30 hours a week.
If students are not interested in tutoring, summer in California brings a seemingly unlimited amount of Lifeguard jobs. For poolside positions, lifeguards are wanted at pools by Pro LifeGuard in Foothill Ranch, Rancho Santa Margarita, Ladera Ranch, Ranch Mission Viejo and San Clemente.
For a job with more benefits, Wildrivers is also looking for lifeguards, offering free admissions to their waterpark as well as competitive pay.
If students are interested in a more challenging job, as well as high pay, Lake Mission Viejo and the City of Laguna Niguel Beach Department are looking for experienced lifeguards. These jobs would be seasonal, requiring a tryout to gauge skill level as well as an oral interview due to the intense nature of the job.
Mrs. McMelligan is the Career Guidance Specialist for Aliso Niguel High School in the College and Career department. Coinciding with her main position, she also is in charge of the job board.
Mrs. McMelligan described the board as a middleman for students in search of a job. She said, “Employers reach out with their needs in a posting and we post it for the students.”
The job board is an often overlooked resource for Aliso Niguel’s students, but as summertime approaches, the board can help many students find their perfect summer jobs.
