Spring break is one of the most important moments of the school year because it provides students and teachers time away from school, relieving the stress that has continued to build up as exams are coming up. Despite the fact that spring break is only a short amount of time, there are still many activities that students did throughout the break.
One of the most common activities students and teachers took part in during spring break is traveling. Unlike any other break, such as weekends, spring break enables a longer time off school, providing an appropriate opportunity to travel for several days. Whether it be traveling around the state, visiting amusement parks for a day or two, or venturing outside of the state, traveling is one of the best ways to create memories to look back on.
Specifically, many ANHS students taking Spanish courses along with Mrs. Sepe and Mrs. McClellan left for a trip to Spain on March 29 until April 7, which was the day before spring break at Aliso Niguel ended. On top of visiting countless small cities in Spain, they visited several landmarks such as Madrid, Granada, Sevilla, Córdoba and Cadiz. With this trip, students not only had the chance to practice their Spanish skills and learn more about Spanish culture, but also strengthen their relationships with one another.
As one of the students who traveled to Spain, Mia Perez (12) shares, “Traveling with Señora Sepe and Señora McClellan on the trip made the trip 100 times better!”
Spring break is also a very convenient time to adjust to spring, including adjusting to spring fashion. With different weather and fashion during the spring, shopping for spring clothing is a great way to make use of spring break. Spring clothing this year consists of floral tops and dresses, denim skirts, jorts, sambas and button ups.
Spending time with friends and family should always be prioritized, and spring break is the best way to maintain that priority. For friends, a small road trip, concert day or cafe visit are some of the many activities to do during spring break in order to catch up and hang out. For families, a movie night, lunch or dinner together or board game night are common yet fun activities to do together as a family despite all having distinct and busy schedules.
Even though it is important to value friends and family, self-prioritization is the key to living a happy and fulfilling life. Self-care activities during spring break ranges from sleeping in, which is difficult to do during the school week, to time for hobbies. Self-care benefits the overall wellbeing and is important for students as they reach the homestretch of the school year, restlessly studying for AP exams as well as finals and wrapping up everything they have learned.
During spring break, the weather was reported to be very hot and summer-like, which nonetheless provided a great opportunity for going to the beach. Especially here in California, there are a variety of beaches to choose from, which is very convenient for anybody living in California. Going to the beach is not only a relaxing and fun activity to do during spring break but also plays as a motivational factor to get through the remainder of the school year for summer break.
Rose Tabatabaei (11) says, “I love the beach and go as often as I can, so other than a few rainy days, spring break was the best opportunity for me to spend time there! I often go with my family or my sister and our friends. Our favorite things to do there are to tan, listen to music and play volleyball!”
Although spring break always goes by too quickly and signals that AP exams are only a month away, students should still use spring break as a time to enjoy their lives and take their minds off school. Even after spring break, students deserve to use any future breaks off school for themselves and do what they love to balance out their time dedicated to school.
