The Aliso Niguel High School senior graduation ceremony is seeking keynote speakers. This opportunity is for any two individuals of the graduating class who had an average high school experience. The chosen speakers will have the spotlight to express what their high school experience meant to them.
Seniors are able to find the information on the Class of 2024 course on Canvas. The process to become a keynote speaker is to write a speech that focuses on one’s high school experience and also to bring up memories and activities that will resonate with many other of the seniors. The keynote speech is meant to have more of a “growing up” perspective.
Applications and speeches must be submitted by April 26, with the final decision announced only three days after on April 29. Selected speakers will deliver their speeches to the Selection Committee on May 3. All student speakers are required to meet with Ms. Erhard to review, revise and rehearse their speeches prior to graduation.
Ms. Erhard, Speech and Debate teacher at Aliso Niguel High School, states, “I think it’s an honor to speak at graduation and parents are very excited to hear that. In the past, we had many parents get surprised because some students never told their parents that they were going to give a speech at graduation, so it’s really nice to be able to connect with your peers before you leave and embark on this big journey, which is what I think the speeches should usually focus on. It’s a unique opportunity, and you get to work with other faculty you may not have been able to work with before in your high school experience.”
Each of the presentations provides an opportunity for the audience of fellow graduates, family, friends and the faculty and staff in attendance to hear the voices of the outgoing Aliso Niguel seniors.
Mrs. Ross states, “It’s a more open experience since not all students took AP classes and all the activities. It helps open up the opportunities to the majority of seniors.”
With the end of the school year and graduation coming up, the keynote speaker opportunity helps give another chance for students who want to do something meaningful before the end of their highschool career and moving onto the next step in their journey. The senior keynote speaker opportunity will overall help provide more insight into the more ordinary experience that many of the seniors experienced during their four years at Aliso Niguel High School.
