Aliso Niguel’s softball team started their South Coast League on Tuesday, March 19 playing against San Juan Hills at home.
Aliso softball came well-prepared and started off strong with an early lead in the second inning, scoring two runs, and San Juan with zero. Aliso keeps up the rhythm throughout the game, scoring four more runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning, making the score 8-0. San Juan was able to stop Aliso and gain two runs in the fifth and seventh inning, but could not catch up, ending the game in an 8-2 Aliso win.
On Monday, March 25, ANHS softball goes head-to-head against Rosary Academy in the Woodbridge Tournament. In the first three innings, the Wolverines and the Royals are evenly matched, holding each other 0-0. Aliso Niguel was able to fight in the fourth inning for a run, bringing the score to 1-0. They continued this lead scoring two runs in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth; so by the end of the game, Rosary Academy was unable to get on the board, ending the game in a Wolverine win 4-0.
Exhausted, but still Working hard, the Wolverines face Mission Viejo High School the next day on Tuesday, March 26. In this exciting match, both Aliso and Mission Viejo kept it close in the first two innings with the score of 0-0. Then, the Diablos scored two runs in the top of the third inning having a 2-0 lead.
The Wolverines quickly responded and were able to tie the game 2-2 in the fourth inning. Feeling pressure on both sides, both teams were unable to score another point, leading to an extra inning. Mission Viejo fought hard to make three runs in the top of the eighth.
Unfortunately, Aliso was not able to recover and fell short with only scoring one run. The final score was 5-3 ending in an Aliso Niguel loss.
Tessa Cowsill (10) says, “After the loss against Mission, we definitely realized that we needed to clean up to be successful against Tesoro.”
They went against Tesoro High School on Thursday, March 28, hungry for a win. Aliso started the game off with one run, but the Tesoro Titans were able to find an early lead in the first inning and score four runs.
Aliso kept the rest of the game clean and scored four runs in the third inning and three runs in the seventh inning. With a total of two home runs from Tessa Cowsill and Taylor Nelson during the game, the Wolverines took home an 8-4 win.
The softball team traveled to Dana Hills Tuesday, April 9 after a productive spring break. Aliso got an early lead with three runs in the first inning.
ANHS was then able to score one run in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth inning. With great defense, Aliso was able to keep Dana Hills from scoring which led Aliso Niguel softball to a final score of 6-0.
This excellent run finishes out the first round of their league. Aliso softball has a 3-1 record with an overall record of 11-4-1. Now, they are preparing for the game against San Juan Hills for the second round of league on Thursday, April 11.
