The Aliso Niguel girls lacrosse team is currently maintaining an overall score of seven wins and eight losses for their 2024 spring season. The team has also officially begun competing in League as of March 19 with a current overall League score of zero wins and four losses.
Throughout the month of March, these players have been enduring a rough patch in their season as Aliso Niguel went up against eight other schools. At first, the team easily scored victory against Dana Hills and Valencia with the incredible final scores: 17-3 and 18-1
However, tables turned as the team moved forward. They struggled to bring home another win. On March 12, these lacrosse athletes lost to Corona del Mar with a score of 20-4 and again on March 14 to Los Alamitos with a score of 16 -6.
With these games in the books, the team moved forward to officially begin their League tournament on March 19. On a Tuesday afternoon, the Wolverines went up against Trabuco Hills and lost with a final score of 14-3.
Player number 10, Kendall Hwang (11) states, “This year’s league games haven’t been our best but we’ve been improving overall.”
Hwang has been playing lacrosse for three years now and currently plays as her team’s defense.
Continuing their League games, the girls also competed against San Clemente, San Juan Hills and El Toro. These games were also defeats with the following total scores: 20-2, 14-4 and 11-9.
Leading Aliso’s girls lacrosse team is Head Coach Mezeul and Assistant Coach Welling.
Hwang stated that she likes how the “coaches always show us their passion and intensity about how much they want us to win each game.”
Despite this bumpy road, the team continues to thrive as they take away memories and friendships from the sport.
Team Captain Ruby Reynolds (11) states, “We have a great team dynamic so as captain, I just want to keep that going.”
When asked about their “highs” of the season, Reynolds’ responded with “So far, for me, have been our bus rides. We have so much fun screaming lyrics together as we ride home from a win.”
Hwang responded saying that her “highs are the team bonding activities like pasta night and rave night.”
Even though the team has experienced a rough journey, they are not discouraged and are working hard for future victories. In addition to victory, each team member also has indivdual goals for themselves this 2024 season.
For instance, Hwang wants to “become a better defender and for our team to win multiple league games.”
These Wolverines are not letting their losses dishearten their spirits; instead, these losses are used as motivation to work harder. The girls lacrosse team continued forward as they put on their lacrosse uniforms and hit the Wolverine stadiums to practice and earn their wins.
