The baseball team is returning to the season after their victory last year. They are the reigning CIF champions in Division 3. They are hoping to maintain their title this season.
The first game of the season was against El Modena High School, winning 4-0. Jonny Nadolski (12) led in batting average with a .667 with 3 at bats, 2 hits and an RBI (runs batted in). Other exemplary players were Tyler Covington (12), Zach Boynton (12) and Brandon Tatch (12) who all had batting averages of .333 and each hit a double. Overall the team had seven hits, 24 at bats, three RBIs and three doubles. In the field, there were no errors, with a 1.000% fielding percentage, so the wolverines had a perfect fielding day.
Next the baseball team played Los Alamitos High School and won again, 1-0. Brandon Tatch had a good game, with a .667 batting average with two hits. Luke Manley (12) had the only RBI of the whole game, which led to the team’s victory. Aaron Orwat (12) and Tyler Covington (12) had a batting average of .333. Jarrett Sabol (11) and Tyler Covington (12) each stole a base during the game. In the field there was only one error by Aaron Orwat, but he made a double play with Alex Hamada (11). Overall the team had a batting average of .167 with four hits.
Mission Viejo High School played against the wolverines on Feb. 19. The baseball team won 12-6, scoring six points in the first inning, one point in the second inning,and five points in the fifth inning. Alex Hamada (11) and Zach Boynton (12) had a perfect batting average of 1.000, with Boynton getting two RBIs. Christian Croy (12) led the team in RBIs with three. Aaron Orwat and Alex Hamada both hit doubles, and Orwat had two RBIs. Austin Hays (11) had a batting average of .750 with three hits, hitting a double. On the field Jarrett Sabol (11) had eight POs (putouts) with no errors. In the field there were only three errors throughout the game and five assists. Overall on offense there were 33 at bats, 16 hits, 10 RBIs, and three doubles.
The Aliso Niguel team lost their first game against Servite High School 6-2. Jonny Nadolski led the game with a batting average of .500 with one hit and scoring one run. Austin Hays and Bradon Tatch had batting averages of .333 with one hit each. Tatch hit a double and scored two RBIs in the first inning. On offense overall there were three hits and one double. In the field there was only one error in the game by Austin Hays.
The Wolverines lost again versus Fullerton High School, 4-1. Jonny Nadolski and Aaron Orwat had the best batting averages of the game with .667. Each had two hits, and Jonny scored one run in the first inning. Tyler Covington hit a double, and Jarrett Sabol got an RBI. Offensively there were seven hits and a batting average of .280. The baseball team played the field perfectly with no errors.
The baseball team gained back their momentum against Mission Viejo High School winning 7-5. Overall there were three RBIs, two were scored by a double hit by Brandon Tatch. There were eight hits with an overall batting average of .308. Zach Boynton and Andrew Watson had perfect batting averages in the game. There were two errors in the field and a base stolen by Jarrett Sabol.
The wolverines were victorious against San Clemente High School. Overall offensively there were six hits with a batting average of .207. Bradon Tatch had another two RBIs and a double. With a team total of four RBIs and two errors in the field. The game was very close throughout with the Wolverines getting an early lead in the first, second and third inning, but being all tied up by the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth Aliso scored, winning the game 5-4.
The baseball team continued their winning streak against San Clemente once again. They had a team batting average of .344 with 11 hits. There were five RBIs, two of them being scored by Jarrett Sabol. There were also three doubles hit by Alex Hamada, Zach Boynton, and Jonny Nadolski. Boynton, Nadolski and Sabol also stole a base. Fielding was almost perfect with only one error.
The team’s most recent game was against San Juan Hills High School.
