During the month of March, Link Crew hosted an event for freshmen at Aliso Niguel High School in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. The event consisted of hiding a stuffed leprechaun in each freshman English class. The freshmen would then have the chance to search and try to find the leprechaun throughout the week.
Meredith Terping (9) shares, “I thought it was a fun event for my grade because it gave me something to look forward to throughout the month. The idea of getting a little prize was fun which motivated us to participate in the activity.”
Events such as this one are extremely important in benefitting the school’s environment for students. This event provided opportunities for students to commemorate and have fun throughout the month of March.
The ability for students, especially freshmen, to interact and participate in events that bring them closer to their school is impactful in their performance levels and attitude while coming to school. Fun activities allow students to come into class with positive outlooks and motivation.
There were posters around the English haul promoting participation in the event. The decorations helped grab the attention of students to motivate them to look for the leprechaun in their class while the event lasted.
The effort Link Crew put into this activity through decorations, promotion and organization ultimately helped lead to the success of the event.
Mrs. Sepe says, “This event was for freshmen to be able to come into my class and see who is their Link Crew coordinator and for Link Crew leaders to get to know the freshmen.”
Making this event an annual activity for ANHS is a memory upperclassmen can later look back on when they are older. As students are reminded that there is a new generation of freshmen, it is wholesome to continue a fun activity of finding the stuffed leprechaun.
There was a prize involved for the winners of the event. The students who discovered where the hidden leprechaun was were able to redeem themselves a prize of a candy bar from Mrs. Sepe.
March may sometimes be a difficult time for students as it is the middle of the second semester and school work can become very stressful. Incorporating a fun activity to a stressful day can help students’ emotional behavior.
March is also a month of celebration for St. Patrick’s day from Irish culture. Link Crew does a great job involving different activities based on different cultures and backgrounds. This is important because it recognizes the diversity at ANHS.
Leprechauns were highly involved in Irish literature in the past which connects it to the overall celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17, however, it is popularily celebrated throughout the entire month through the color green, clover leaves and fun events such as this one.
Link Crew hosts these interactive events throughout the year for students to develop a strong connection with their school. Seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshman all get different opportunities to participate in these joyful events.
The freshman at ANHS were able to enjoy and grow closer to their school through such an exciting Leprechaun event.
