As the current school year winds down, the guidance department at ANHS is already looking ahead to next year’s classes and making preparations to ensure a smooth scheduling process for all students.
Ms. Liegler, a counselor at ANHS, shares that one of the key preparations the guidance department is taking is reviewing the course offerings and ensuring that they align with students’ needs and interests.
She states, “We want to make sure that students have access to the courses that will best prepare them for their future goals.”
Mrs. Whiteside, another counselor at ANHS, adds that the department is also working to provide students with more information about the various courses available to them.
She says, “We know that choosing classes can be overwhelming for some students, so we’re trying to make it as clear as possible what each course entails and what kind of skills and knowledge it will provide.”
In addition to reviewing course offerings and providing more information to students, the guidance department is also working to make the scheduling process itself as efficient and fair as possible.
Mr. Mocnik, Assistant Principal at ANHS, explains that this involves using a computerized system that takes into account students’ preferences and course availability.
He claims, “We want to be as fair and accommodating as we can when it comes to scheduling.”
Mr. Mocnik adds, “By using a computerized system, we can take into account all of the variables involved and come up with the best possible schedule for each student.”
Despite the preparations being made by the guidance department, Ms. Liegler acknowledged that there are always challenges when it comes to scheduling.
She states, “There are always going to be conflicts and issues that arise, but we’re doing everything we can to minimize them and ensure that every student gets the classes they need.”
Mrs. Whiteside reflects on that idea, noting that the most important thing for students to remember is to communicate with their counselors and let them know if they have any concerns or questions about their schedule.
Mrs. Whiteside explains, “We’re here to help students navigate the scheduling process and make the most of their high school experience.”
The goal of the guidance department is to ensure that every student can take the classes they need to achieve their goals and succeed in their future endeavors.
As Mr. Mocnik summarizes their mission, stating, “We want to set our students up for success, and that starts with making sure they have access to the courses and resources they need to thrive.”
