Link Crew hosted a movie night event for the freshmen class on March 8, 2024. Movie night was a free event for students; there was no ticket or entry fee required in order to participate. The event lasted from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the school library.
Mrs. Sepe said, “Link crew put this whole event together with the purpose of just hosting a fun school event that doesn’t cost money for students, and allow for students to hang out with their friends and peers.”
The movie was picked through a poll linked on the Canvas homepage. The students could vote for a movie from a selection including “The Amazing Spider-Man,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules,” “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” and “Guardians of the Galaxy.” The movie that had collected the most votes by the end of the week was “The Amazing Spider-Man,” an action and adventure movie. The duration of the movie is two hours and 16 minutes, and the movie is rated PG13. The movie was displayed on the big screen projectors inside the library.
Students had a selection of food to enjoy while they watched the movie with their friends. Buttered popcorn was provided at the movie night free of charge, but other snacks were also provided and sold for a small price. Candy and canned soft drinks were priced at $1 and slices of pizza were $2 for two slices per student at the concession table located near the entrance of the library.
Inside the library, all the tables and chairs were cleared out and moved aside to the corners of the room. It left a large open carpeted area for students as they were able to sit freely on the floor with their friends. The students were permitted to bring blankets with them to the movie night to get comfortable and cozy.
Melody Moeinzadeh (11), a link crew member, said, “For this event, we mainly worked on making a bunch of posters to advertise all around the school, and we also did a lot of outreach to the freshmen. We made sure to pick movies that the majority of audiences would like.”
Link Crew hosts these events to help form an inclusive community for all students, and they make an extra effort to include the freshmen in school related activities.
Amitis Yaghini (11), a link crew leader, said, “the goal was to include freshmen in this event and organize events for freshmen. The freshmen class is the group that is usually the least included in school events, and we want to include them more and make them feel welcome at ANHS.”
The movie night event allowed for students to bond with their friends. The students sat together as a group near the walls of the library and watched “The Amazing Spider-Man” with their peers while enjoying complimentary freshly-popped popcorn.
