The Oscars, or otherwise known as the Academy Awards, is a famous award show held annually to celebrate the art of movies. The first Oscars were held in 1929 in the Roosevelt Hotel and have been around ever since.
In the near century of this award ceremony, over thousands of Oscar awards have been handed out to talented actors and actresses, writers and directors.
For the past decades, the Oscars ceremony has been held in the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and holds a 900 foot red carpet for thousands of celebrities to pose for perfect photos.
While celebrating the Oscars at a party an attendee, Jenny Hilfiger shares, “I enjoy watching the Oscars for the gowns. It’s interesting seeing what people decide to wear most. I’m shocked.”
This year had some amazing moments but here are some of the most memorable ones of the night.
The host of this year’s ceremony was Jimmy Kimmel and he started his night by roasting several celebrities such as Robert Downey Jr., Bradley Cooper and Christopher Nolan.
Actress Da’Vine Joy Randolph won best supporting actress for her role in “The Holdovers,” a story about a student being stuck at his school during winter break with his least favorite teacher and learning how every single person has something going on in their lives and faces hardships. This was Randolp’s first Oscar win and after her speech, not a single eye was left dry in the audience.
Ryan Gosling shocked the crowd by performing the Grammy winning song, “I’m Just Ken” from the movie “Barbie” as he roamed the theater collaborating with several other Ken actors to sing along with him. He presented himself in an all pink suit and created parallels to Marilyn Monroe’s “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friends” performance.
Claire Fincher (10) shares, “The thing I love most about the Oscars is being able to be with my family and see movies that we may have not heard about win awards so that we have more interest in watching them in the future.”
Beloved director, Wes Anderson, was able to leave the night as a first time Oscar winner after thirty years of directing. His live action short film, “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” won him the Oscars for Best Live Action Short Film of the year.
The Golden Lion film, “Poor Things,” directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, called themselves a winner last night. Although not leaving the Oscars as the Best Picture winner, they won four awards, making themselves known as one of the most successful movies to come out in 2023 despite their premiere date of Dec. 8.
Actress Emma Stone was left shocked once announced Best Actress for her role Bella Baxter in the film. Her speech was heartfelt as she thanked all her fellow nominees and praised them for their performances.
There was no doubt that “Oppenheimer” was going to leave the Oscars a winner, but the movie left Dolby Theater with seven Oscars after being nominated for thirteen. Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Original Score, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor all went to the movie, leaving them one of the biggest winners in Oscar history.
