As the weather gets warmer, Aliso students are slowly starting to take off their winter layers and experiment with spring trends and lighter styles.
A vital factor in building a personal style is inspiration. Many students look to different outlets when it comes to how they want to dress.
The top choices among students were social media apps such as Pinterest, Instagram and TikTok. These platforms give students an outlook on what their favorite celebrities and fashion accounts wear.
“I’ve been following an influencer for a while, her name is Kate Brock, and I love her. I think her pieces are pretty basic and more simple, but she styles them in a way that makes them more interesting such as mixing colors, styles and patterns which you wouldn’t normally see,” says Gabby Mansour (12).
Aside from social media, many students look towards artists, magazines and the culture those outlets bring forward.
Amelia Giler (12) looks for inspiration in 90s fashion and singers such as Fiona Apple and Dolores O’Riodan.
“I was into the grunge lifestyle a lot when I was younger, like sophomore year, and it evolved into an appreciation for more classic and timeless pieces from the 90s,” says Giler.
Sometimes students don’t just look at Western trends when it comes to building their style, but would rather expand their horizons and look to other countries for inspiration.
Ikaika Gomez (12) is a big fan of the 80s and 90s fashion found in Japanese magazines, “I like the vintage and the baggy look, it’s very casual and easy to throw on, especially for school. I like the baggier look for pants and maybe a slimmer look on top.”
When it comes to putting together an outfit, students look for basic clothes and work to accessorize from there. Jewelry and shoes are found to be of utmost importance when it comes to making your outfit come together.
Senior, Riley Pabalan, agrees on this aspect, “If something is more in style I’ll look for it. I’m really into jewelry right now. I’m more drawn to an outfit if it has more necklaces or bracelets or rings.”
As the weather gets warmer students recommend altering their outfits to a more light, weather-fitting style. This includes losing the heavy layers often worn during winter seasons and replacing it with lighter bottoms or tops such as jorts or long flowy skirts.
“I definitely gotta loosen up my fits more and make it more breathable and fit for the weather. I definitely need to alter my style and get it ready for the upcoming warm season,” adds Gomez.
When it comes to style shopping, all students recommended looking for good quality basics before adding any statement pieces, however, it’s always up to the individual on how they want to dress and express themselves.
There is no right or wrong way to style yourself and Aliso has tons of fashionable students who are able to uniquely express themselves no matter the season.
