On Saturday, Feb. 10, Aliso Niguel had their annual winter formal at the Fullerton Hangar from 7-10 p.m.
The theme was announced at the Winter Pep Rally to be “007” and it made many students excited for this dance.
When first entering the venue it was filled with the thrilling ambience of James Bond as there were planes and helicopters surrounding the building and even inside of it.
There was an obvious downside to having the dance at this location as it was open to the outside and due to the winter air caused many to be freezing in the weather, especially those wearing dresses.
Compared to last year’s venues, there were some obvious negatives such as the outside and being exposed to the weather, the larger venue with less attendees and the snacks being outside that caused them to get cold and harden.
Principal Hatcher attended the dance and shared, “I think this is just a really cool different venue and it seems like everyone is having a blast and having so much fun and so I’m just super excited for everybody.”
Although the cold conditions were a downside to the venue, it still had some positives. There was an abundance of space, so those who weren’t dancing were able to still be inside. There were many video game machines for those bored with dancing and even foosball and air hockey.
The snack table was another favored part of this dance with a wide variety of sweet treats from oreo cupcakes to rice crispy treats. With the snack table were two options of drinks, water and lemonade.
The usual coffee cart was brought back for this formal and was not a fail. Groups of students lined up to get a hot chocolate to keep themselves warm and finished up with coffee drizzled ice cream as a side treat to go with their drinks.
The dancing got all students’ attention, however, the extreme lasers got to be too much for some to handle and they did cause headaches. The lasers made it hard to see at some points and never stopped.
April Simpson (11) said, “I think Winter Formal is a lot more fun this year, I had such low expectations due to the different venues, but this has been super fun, and I love the mix of outdoors and indoors.”
There was a big misfortune for this dance, however, because when announcing the formal court it was nearly impossible to hear the winner and only one person from court did show up.
The DJ shared many new songs that have been trending which allowed all students to jam out together, and they even included a slow song for couples to enjoy the moment.
The dance did have several ups and downs due to the lack of students attending and the cold weather conditions, but the wolverines made this night their own and found small aspects to make the night one that they would never forget.
