Aliso’s very own football team boasts two very pronounced All CIF-SS award nominees,
Ashton Hughes (11) and Jarett Sabol (11). The two are elite football players who have recently received the All CIF-SS title. Both Ashton and Jarett are currently juniors at Aliso Niguel and plan to continue to play Football through their senior year.
The CIF-SS title is the governing body for high school athletics in most of Southern California. It comprises the ten sections of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).
Schools compete in their respective divisions and only the best win. Not many schools have won, making our players all the more special.
Jarret has been playing football for three years. He initially started to get his mind off of baseball but quickly found out it was the sport for him. Meanwhile, Ashton has been playing football since sixth grade.
Jarett is currently number 24 and plays running back, tight end, and wide receiver. Ashton is number 73 and plays center and guard.
Ashton is disappointed his junior year’s football season is already over but is excited for the spring. He believes his whole team is well-rounded and thrilled to find out who the next QB will be.
He says, “My favorite part about football is making a team into a family and trying our hardest to win even through the pain and sweat.”
Through his seasons Ashton says the coaches were the biggest factor in making him who he is today. He would like to thank Coach Calahan and Coach Skinner for all their hard work.
Although he has one year left to play for Aliso Ashton already plans to play at USF or SDSU after his last season.
Jarett, on the other hand, has grown up playing baseball. Both his brothers played D1 baseball and both play in the MLB.
Although Jarett is a star at football, his main plan is to play professional baseball in the MLB along with his brothers.
Jarett’s has won many awards in both sports, including winning All-CIF three times, twice in football and once in baseball. Jarett is searching for another CIF championship for baseball this year as well as being nominated for All CIF in the sport once again.
As a junior, Jarett still has one more year to improve and get ready for his draft.
He shares, “I am super excited for my future, and I work to get better each and every day to pursue my dream.”
After high school, he plans to get drafted into the MLB and is currently committed to playing baseball at USC.
Coach Calahan says that both Ashton and Jarett are big parts of their offense and defense.
Both players are equally crucial for the team. Ashton gives it his all and is selfless. Jarett plays football for fun and he has great determination and competitiveness.
Coach Calahan states, “I submitted four contenders for the title but Ashton and Jarett were big factors in our two playoff games last year that really made them stand out.”
Ashton and Jarett are outstanding players who have gone above and beyond in their sport to prove that they are qualified to win the CIF-SS title.
