Aliso’s girls’ water polo team won the title of Sea View League Champions on Jan. 30. The girls went undefeated in the league, winning all of their games finishing the regular season 6-0.
The girls’ winning game was played on Jan. 30 against Mission Viejo High School. From the start, the girls were putting in the work. Each quarter the score was consistently raised. The final box score of the game ended in 19-3.
“It felt rewarding that our hard work finally paid off. We have put in our best effort all season during practice and games, and we were proud that it was worth it in the end,” stated Tisa Taheri (11).
The other five games that the girls played in the league were against Capistrano Valley High School, Tesoro High School and Mission Viejo High School.
On Jan. 11, the girls’ first league game was played against Tesoro. The girls started off the game strong and fought until the very end. The final score was 21-6 with Aliso tripling Tesoro’s score.
The girls’ first league game was played against Capistrano Valley on Jan. 16. The final score was 10-4 with Aliso doubling the opponents’ score.
The girls played their third league game against Mission Viejo on Jan. 18. Having won their last game, the girls wanted to keep the win streak going. The girls ended the game with a strong finish and scored 19-3.
Aliso played an away game on Jan. 23 against Tesoro. Having winning on their minds, the girls kept a strong guard and ended the game with a 23-8 win.
The girls went up against Capistrano Valley once more on Jan. 25. Both teams were determined to win this game. In the end, Aliso prevailed with a score of 6-5.
During the league games, Aliso participated in the Central Orange County and Garden Grove High School Varsity Tournament.
Throughout the Central Orange County tournament, the girls went up against Esperanza High School and Mission Viejo High School.
Aliso first played Esperanza on Jan. 26. The score ended in a loss to Esperanza with a final score of 11-2.
The next game played on Jan. 26 in the tournament was against Mission Viejo. With winning on their minds, Aliso was ready to take home the win this time. The final score of the game was 13-3.
Throughout the Garden Grove High School Varsity Tournament, the girls went up against Garden Grove High School and Western High School.
Aliso first played Garden Grove on Jan. 27. The score ended in a win against Garden Grove with a final score of 16-7.
The next game played on Jan. 27 in the tournament was against Western. The girls were determined to keep their winning streak and finished off the game with a 13-6 win.
The girls qualified for CIF and played their first round on Feb. 6. Aliso went up against Valley View High School and won with a final score of 13-6.
Kasey Miller (11) states, “It felt very good winning the first round of CIF! I am very proud of our team and how far we have come, from winning league to participating in CIF. I can’t wait to see how far we go!”
With the games played this season, the girls have won 22-7, having a 76 percent win rate.
