Laura Richards (12) is an excellent student athlete at Aliso Niguel high school. Laura participates in winter basketball and spring track and field.
On top of being in two different sports, Laura is also an outstanding student when it comes to academics. She has received a Superintendent award every year of high school and has been rewarded with two Espirit de Wolverine awards.
Outside of school, Laura loves reading and hiking in her free time. She also is extremely grateful for her friends and family that support her everyday.
She loves the constant memories she has made and continues to make with being a part of ANHS basketball and track.
“The coaches push us to be our best and Mashburn is always supportive,” says Laura. All of the staff and coaches at Aliso Niguel High School want to see Laura succeed and achieve great things.
In basketball, Laura is a guard and in track and field, she has done high jump, 4×100 relay, 4×400 relay, 200m, 400m and 800m.
According to her coach, Gene Duenas, she is very athletic and can adapt to any situation or circumstance. She is a quick learner and very determined.
“Sometime ago, I shared with Laura that she’s a good defender but I wanted to see spectacular. Without hesitation, she accepted the challenge. Defending our most challenging opponents, she’s proven that she’s up to the task, says Head Coach Gene Duenas.
Laura has continued to persevere and work relentlessly to start in games. This season has been difficult for many players and she has learned to overcome adversity and stay strong with the help of her teammates.
She has taken each season day by day improving constantly. With Laura being chosen as a team captain this season, she has been there for her team encouraging them to do their very best.
Abigail Hwang (9) says, “During practice and games, she is an outstanding leader and always hustles down the court even when she is tired. She’s always communicating on and off the floor and takes it upon herself to guide her team.”
Laura Richards has many important roles on the team including leading the team for warmups at practices and games and communicating at team meetings. She practices before, during and after games training to be the best version of herself.
She is always there for her teammates when they need her and spreads kindness. With Laura’s kind spirit and passion, she will further spread her positivity to both ANHS basketball and track and field.
Gene Duenas says, “Laura is an outstanding athlete, leader and I wish her the very best.”
Laura is a one of a kind student athlete that will always be remembered. She has left a mark at Aliso Niguel High School and will continue to be an inspiration to many students.
