Aliso Niguel ASB plans fun events for Kindness Week and Valentine’s Day for students starting Monday, Feb. 12 to Thursday, Feb. 15. ASB’s main focus of the week of Valentine’s day is to spread kindness and be nice to others.
“With Valentine’s Day overlapping with kindness week, we came up with lunch time and morning activities to celebrate,” says Mia Harris (9), a member of the intramurals committee.
Starting off strong on Monday, Feb. 12, ASB has created a picture frame with loving messages around the frame with the message “Be kind.” This cute idea leads to many students posting their pictures that they have taken with the frame on social media platforms which spreads a positive message in a different way.
On Tuesday, Feb. 13, the activity of the day will be, “Be the i in kind.” On this day, students will pledge to be kind on a piece of paper in the shape of an “I”. Then, when the students are finished, all of the pledges will be shown on a poster to show Aliso’s kind spirit.
By doing this students are taking initiative and promising to be a part of something bigger. ASB hopes for everyone to participate and sign so that Aliso Niguel can be a place of love.
For Wednesday, Feb. 14, combining both Valentine’s Day and Kindness Week, ASB has decided on doing an activity called, “Kindness rocks.” Colorful rocks in Valentine’s colors with heartfelt messages on them are being hidden across the lunch area. During lunch, students will try their best to find these, picking up optimistic messages along the way. To entice students to participate, when someone finds a rock and returns it back to ASB’s table, they will get a sweet reward.
With this simple, yet effective way of spreading kindness, this gives students an avenue to exert energy on something that has a strong message. During this fun activity, students will have a great time competing with each other and making memories. This is a perfect activity for Valentine’s day because it encourages friendship and positivity.
Lastly, to conclude Kindness Week, on Thursday, Feb. 15, students will, “write little notes to their families since that is the focus on the last day of kindness week,” says Finn Sullivan (11), commissioner of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.
He will be working this activity in the morning before school because of minimum day. After students finish, they will also be rewarded with a donut to finalize the week and to honor participation. This activity is very thoughtful and will improve any students’ day.
ASB is posting everything through social media to remind everyone about the exciting activities to come. They hope that by doing these simple tasks, ANHS students and staff will continue to make this school a better place.
