Senior quotes have been the most enjoyable part of the yearbook for years and seniors have always been excited to submit their quotes and leave a significant memory of themselves behind in their graduating yearbook.
However, for as long as senior quotes have been around there has been a controversy against them. The controversy is whether or not the quotes have become too much and should be stopped or if the quotes are funny and should be kept as a tradition for seniors.
I agree that senior quotes should be kept in the yearbook and that it is a very thrilling and traditional part of the senior experience. Your senior quote is something that many spend lots of time thinking about and looking forward to, while there have been many others who have taken this opportunity for granted or misused this privilege.
While some choose to do an inspirational quote, others have come up with more silly and funny quotes. Such as “I used to have straight A’s, now I’m not even straight”, and my personal favorite, “One time I ate a bagel.”
Despite the silly jokes, there has been controversy around the quotes because some have gone too far or have been too inappropriate. However, these quotes are now monitored before published so anything that seems too inappropriate will be replaced with a quote along the lines of “Class of 2024.”
While it may seem unfair at times, jokes can remain funny and harmless without being insensitive to someone else or used inappropriately. Some quotes have been more “cringe” than funny at times, although that does not mean senior quotes in general are more cringe than funny.
