With college applications coming to a close, the majority of students having access to a car and the stress of academic success being lifted, second semester senior year is the best time to be a high school student.
Seniors are between the ages of 17 and 18, making them the oldest students on campus, which gives them the most access to responsibilities such as driving and for select students, depending on parents, later curfews and overall a better ability to have fun.
Even in school seniors get major benefits. For instance, if they stick to a sport by their senior year, they will be on varsity or in high leadership positions. This doesn’t just look amazing on college applications, but makes sports and activities so much more fun.
The school also provides a ton of senior events to really make the last year much more memorable. Seniors have senior sunrise in the beginning of the year and nearly every sport and activity has some form of a senior night, honoring those who have been committed to their activities. Later in the second semester, by tradition, seniors will have senior sunset, brunch and of course graduation on May 31.
“Being a senior is so much fun since you get to participate in so many things like senior sunrise which may seem corny but ultimately turn out to be amazing memories. There are so many benefits that come with the second semester senior year as it’s genuinely the most lax time of one’s high school career, and if the senioritis didn’t hit you already it definitely does in the second semester, but that’s okay because classes tend to slow down too. I personally can’t wait for the rest of the semester!” says Joshua Acosta (12)
Senior year is also when most popular teenage movies are made, and for good reason! 17-18 is when young adults are most carefree and have the most opportunities ahead of them. Seniors are able to relax more in their second semester and focus on the now rather than the future.
Right now, the majority are focusing on completing college financial aid, working and most of all connecting with fellow students whom they may not see for a long time after graduation.
“ This semester I have gotten to try new things and create new memories that I never expected to happen in a million years. Again, the second semester has seemed to open up into a more fun environment, so I am quite excited to see what will happen as we come closer to the end of the year,” says Brandi Robinson (12).
While it may not be the easiest time ever, many students are still very focused on academics and achieving top marks. It is more relieving to know that your grades will not hold a lasting consequence on your future.
Like Brandi, many students are excited to try out new activities and make the memories they can before they lock into their future.
Second-semester of senior year is definitely no walk in the park, but it’s easier and more enjoyable for the majority of high schoolers and something to look forward to for underclassmen.
