February, the month of love, is celebrated by couples on the fourteenth in honor of Valentine’s day. However, the month of love is not limited for only couples to celebrate, but can be celebrated by friends as well, since Galentine’s day is celebrated on Feb. 13, and there are so many ways to celebrate this day.
A popular and well-loved idea for Galentine’s day is holding a party. Parties can range from a group of six all wearing cozy pink pajamas to a larger group of girls wearing dazzling dresses. To put the party together, decorations are the key component and for this occasion, heart banners, heart balloons and heart-shaped sunglasses for a photo booth would be perfect.
Rose Tabatabaei (11) speaks about her experience holding a Galentine’s party with her group of friends: “This was the first Galentine’s I’ve ever hosted and it was amazing! It lasted around ten hours, during which we watched movies together, sobbed together, laughed together and danced together.”
She adds, “We collaborated for the decor, which I think was a fantastic idea because we got to be suprised by the little things that we each got. My sister made us her signature cheesecake, my mom made us a lovely dinner and we had so many cute snacks throughout the day, like the cupcakes my friend made. 10/10 would recommend having a Galentine’s.”
Most Galentine’s parties are held indoors, but to get some fresh air, tea parties could be an alternative. Certainly, the dress code would be pink or red and girls would be able to get themselves ready for such a cute event. Because it is tea time, this event could leave room for girl talk.
On Valentine’s day, partners would exchange gifts for each other to express their love and affection and girls can do the very same on Galentine’s day. Just for this function, pink elephant can replace white elephant and girls can exchange their shared interests such as stuffed animals or books. On a similar note, secret Cupid can replace secret Santa for a more intimate gift giving session.
One of the best parts about being a girl is the feeling after taking a self-care day at the spa and a spa day with the girls would be a great Galentine’s activity. If the spa includes it, might as well get a manicure to emphasize femininity on such a day dedicated to the girls.
A girl loves nothing more than flowers. For a more artistic Galentine’s, flower arranging would be an aesthetic and fun activity to do for Galentine’s day. Just like girls themselves, all flower arrangements turn out to be beautiful, so they deserve to be shown off by taking photos and posting them on social media.
More onto artistic Galentine’s, making or painting candles have been a popular idea for Galentine’s on the internet. Outside of candles, painting tote bags and vases are just as common for an artistic piece. The host of the activity can also hold a paint and sip brunch to make the event even more special than it already is.
To show friendship appreciation on Galentine’s day, making friendship bracelets is easy and affordable for those looking to hold a Galentine’s. Friendship bracelets are not only a symbol of platonic love, but also a memory of the fun times with friends.
Galentine’s is most definitely a day dedicated to DIY activities and a doable DIY activity is cooking. For a more fancy Galentine’s meal, fondue and food boards are the best bet and for a more simple Galentine’s meal, heart shaped pizza and pasta are popular choices. A Galentine’s meal would not be a meal without baking and decorating cookies for dessert while blasting and singing to music.
If the Galentine’s celebration lasts all day to the extent of a sleepover, a movie marathon would be the best activity. “Barbie,” “Pitch Perfect,” “Mean Girls,” “Clueless” and “Legally Blonde” are some of the best movies for Galentine’s day. Watching movies can bring everyone together and create more memories to look back on.
Mrs. Puccinelli shares her opinion on Galentine’s day: “I think it must feel great to feel the love [on this day], no matter if it’s from friends or a significant other.”
