The National Honor Society (NHS) Induction Ceremony held on Thursday, Jan. 11, was a night of celebration for the students who have achieved academic excellence and demonstrated a commitment to service and leadership. The event was held at the school auditorium and was attended by proud parents, teachers, and fellow students.
Carolyn Koyama, one of the advisers for NHS, expressed her happiness at the event’s turnout, stating, “It’s always a pleasure to see our students’ hard work being recognized. NHS is not just about academic achievement, but also about developing leadership skills and serving the community. I’m proud of these students for achieving all of that.”
The ceremony began with the lighting of the candles by the current members of NHS. The new inductees were then called on stage to receive their certificates and a white rose.
Dartagnan Mugiya (10), a student who was inducted into NHS, was thrilled to be part of the ceremony and he expressed “It’s an honor to be part of NHS. I’ve worked hard to maintain good grades and also to volunteer my time in the community. Being recognized for that is a great feeling.”
In her speech, Koyama emphasized the importance of the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
Koyama shared, “These pillars are the foundation of NHS. They represent the qualities that we want our students to embody, not just in high school, but also in their future endeavors.”
The ceremony also featured a keynote speech by prominent community leaders of NHS who emphasized the importance of service and giving back to the community. In their speeches, they expressed that as members of NHS, they are not just here to achieve academic excellence, but to also serve their community.
Mugiya was inspired by the speech, sharing, “I’ve always believed in the importance of giving back to the community. Being part of NHS gives me the opportunity to do that on a larger scale. I’m excited to see how I can make a difference.”
The ceremony ended with all the inductees receiving their certificates and pledging their commitment to the four pillars of NHS. The proud parents took pictures with their students at the ANHS food court that was set up with some refreshments and a place to take photos after the ceremony.
