Many students struggle with their busy schedule coming into the new year. For this reason, establishing a daily routine or schedule to follow can ultimately lead to success this 2024 school year.
Ms. Zhou, a teacher at Aliso Niguel High school, states, “You should keep an organized schedule and follow it everyday. Students should stay organized because when they don’t, many of them show up to class panicking and unprepared.”
The first step to take when becoming more organized is making a to-do list of everything you need to do each day of the week. You can also make a to-do list when you feel overwhelmed by everything you have to think about. This way, it prevents you from forgetting anything while keeping you motivated to complete the list.
Once you have your scheduled tasks written down, separate everything so that each day has a balanced intensity. Then, continue by separating those tasks into a certain time of the day and leave a healthy amount of time to rest in between each one.
It is important to leave a good amount of time in between each task you have to accomplish so you can recover and rest. Resting also provides good opportunities for you to get more energy to continue pushing through the rest of the day or week.
When following your to-do list, you should make sure not to multitask and stay focused on the one thing you are doing. Trying to accomplish multiple tasks at the same time can make you overwhelmed and it does not result in your best performance because you did not individually focus on them.
Additionally, do not procrastinate or avoid doing something until the last minute because it is too difficult or boring. By doing them as soon as possible, you will not have to worry about it in the future. Once you accomplish that dreadful task, you can reward yourself any way you would like and thank yourself for being productive!
While you complete a task or chore, you should keep track of the time you have spent doing it in order to find out if you are taking a long or short amount of time. By tracking your time, you can determine if you have been getting too distracted during your chore or you may be ending it too early because you are tired.
Knowing how your body and mind feels throughout the day can help you form a better routine that works best for you. Based on your attention span or energy levels, you should shorten or separate your task with more breaks.
Andrew Oh (10), a student at ANHS, says, “Following a daily routine has helped me feel less overwhelmed while making me feel overall healthier and more productive.”
When a difficult or stressful event takes place, it is crucial to take a break before stacking more assignments onto their agenda. By maintaining a positive and healthy mindset, you can overall establish the best and most efficient schedule for the new year.
