So far in the season the boys basketball team has won 17 games and lost six games. They are currently in the South Coast league so they play El Toro High School, Dana Hills High School and Mission Viejo High School. They have played five games in the league and their record is 2-3.
In their first league game against El Toro, Jayden Mysin (11) had an excellent game. The shooting guard made three 3-pointers in the third quarter, catching Aliso up to El Toro and making the score 28-25 to Aliso. Charlie Gas (12) shooting guard, stole the ball from an opposing player and threw it to Mysin, giving him a fast break to score. Mysin stole the ball in the fourth quarter scoring.
Gas had a fast break as well scoring a lay-up. Point guard Henry Coulston (9) and point guard Ryan Morikawa (12) had blocks in the game as well.
The game went into overtime with El Toro winning 58-55. However, Aliso played well with 27 rebounds, 12 assists and two blocks.
In the next game against Dana Hills, Aliso had three blocks from Garrett Trayer (12), forward, Mozamel Hamid (12), forward and Jayden Mysin.
They also had three steals from Charles Gas and from forward Samson Lassiter (12) both in the third quarter, as well as a steal by Noah Shihad (11) shooting guard in the fourth quarter.
Aliso also got 21 rebounds, 10 assists, but lost with the ending score being 43-71.
In their third league game Aliso played against El Toro High School again. In the first quarter Mysin scored a 3-pointer. In the second quarter Mysin and Trayer had steals. As well as a block by Shihad. Mysin had three 3-pointers in the third quarter with Shihad scoring three 3-pointers as well in the fourth.
Aliso won the game 68-52 with 29 rebounds, 18 assists, four steals and one block.
In league the team also played Mission Viejo High School. Aliso played very well with Trayer and Jay Keys (10), shooting guard getting blocks. As well as Trayer, Keys, Mysin, and Kodai Fujii (12), point guard all getting steals.
Trayer had 19 points in the game and Jayden Keough (12) forward had a great game scoring six 3-pointers. After talking about his shooting game, Keough exclaimed “My shot was feeling good in warmups so my coach ran some plays for me to get going. Mission’s coach was also my freshman coach, so there was motivation to show him I’m a better player now. Games like that give us great energy going further into the league.” That determination and energy continued throughout the game with Aliso winning with the score being 73-52. Aliso had 29 rebounds, 15 assists, seven steals, and two blocks.
Aliso just played their fifth league game against Dana Hills High School. Keys scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds. Kodai had five points making 3-pointers throughout the game. Team Captain Gas scored 10 points.
Unfortunately, the wolverines lost 72-68, and team captain Garrett Trayer commented, “It was a really intense and fun game, those are the type of games you look forward to as a player. It sucks we couldn’t come out on top, but overall games like that are what build a team together and it was a fun game.”
