The girls water polo team at Aliso opened the league with their first game against Tesoro on Jan. 15.
Playing against Tesoro High School was the teams first game in league.
The girls fought hard the entire game, raising the score each quarter. The final score ended 21 to six with Aliso bringing home the win.
When asked about the team, Kasey Miller (11) replied, “I feel great about the upcoming season and I have a lot of confidence in our team and our abilities.”
The girls went up against Capo Valley High School on Jan. 16. Going into the game with winning on their minds, the girls ended up bringing home the win with a final score of 10 to four.
The team is first in the Sea View League.
Tisa Taheri (11) states, “For this season we hope to put our best effort into all of our games and work to our full potential.”
An upcoming league game for the girls is against Mission Viejo High School on Jan. 18. This game is special to the girls as Senior Night will also take place.
The 2023-2024 season’s captains are Khloe Escobar (12) and Gabi Lueken (11).
The girls were practicing long before the season started at the beginning of school around Aug. Their daily practices revolved around 45 minutes in the weight room and an hour and half swimming and practicing plays.
As the girls trained for the upcoming season they played multiple games and competed in tournaments as well.
Aliso played against many high schools in preparation for the season.
Out of the 11 preseason games played, Aliso went against Edison High School, Garden Grove High School, Woodbridge High School, Rancho Cucamonga High School, Dana Hills High School, Irvine High School, San Juan Hills High School, Trabuco Hills High School and Marina High School.
The girls also participated in the Garden Grove Tournament and the Saddleback Tournament.
In the Garden Grove Tournament, the girls went up against Segerstrom High School, El Toro High School, Portola High School and Capistrano Valley High School.
The girls played both Segerstrom and Capistrano Valley on Nov. 17. The girls won against Segestrom with a final score of 22 to four. Against El Toro, the girls lost 14 to five.
Continuing on into the tournament, on Nov. 18 the girls played both Portola and Capistrano Valley. Playing Portola first, the girls won 13 to four. With winning on their minds the girls were able to come together as a team and win against Capistrano Valley with a final score of 11 to seven.
Out of the four games played at the Garden Grove Tournament the girls won three.
In the Saddleback Tournament, the girls went up against Saint Joseph High School, Costa Mesa High School, Redlands High School and Fountain Valley High School.
The girls played both Saint Joseph and Costa Mesa on Dec. 1. The girls lost against Saint Joseph with a close score of seven to eight. With the determination of winning, the girls won against Costa Mesa doubling their score leaving the pool at 18 to nine.
Aliso continued on into the tournament playing Redlands and Fountain Valley on Dec. 2. The girls won both their games that day. Against Redlands the score was eight to four and the game against Fountain Valley ended in a close winning score of 10 to nine.
The girls look forward to their upcoming league games and hope to win the Sea View League Championship Title.
