Aliso Niguel had their winter formal pep rally last Friday on January 19. The pep rally took place during students’ third period class in the gymnasium, where students occupied the bleachers.
The pep rally started off by introducing the pep rally hosts, Taleiya Gordon (9), Neka Jazaeri (10), Izzy Marrie (11), and Ayden Smith (12). Each host served as a grade representative during the rally and worked to hype up the crowd.
After the introduction, the hosts gave a special recognition to the boys varsity baseball team and the girls varsity tennis team for winning CIF in 2023.
The Dance team showed off their skills and performed a choreographed Moulin Rouge dance to “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” by Marilyn Monroe along with a few other songs remixed in. Wearing sparkly pink outfits, they shined on the floor and did not disappoint the audience.
Sophomore representative Neka Jazaeri says, “I loved the dance team’s Moulin Rouge performance, I thought it was a great variety of songs and such a fun dance.”
Following the dance team’s performance, the boys basketball team and wrestling team each had three athletes from their team go against each other in a one on one game of human hamster ball. Each student was given a hamster ball inflatable and the two opponents were confined to a box. The objective was to use the inflatable to knock the other opponent out of the box. The boys wrestling team won 3-0.
The hosts then went on to announce that motivational speaker Keith Hawkins would visit Aliso Niguel during the week of January 22 to January 26. Hawkins will come and speak to the sophomores about the importance of kindness and unity.
After the announcement, a video was projected of students promoting the No Place for Hate program at Aliso in order to encourage others to help make Aliso Niguel a safe and inclusive environment for their peers.
Following the video, the hosts introduced winter sports and congratulated them for making it through the season and being committed to their teams. The team captains of each team ran across the court and showed off a bit of the skills while being announced.
The girls’ song team performed a short routine for the audience. “It’s Time to Get Loose” remixed. Unfortunately, the cheer team did not get a chance to perform because of an injury that occurred during the last pep rally.
After the performances, ASB announced the theme for winter formal as well as the dress up days for that week. The theme will be 007 and the dance will be action packed like the movies.
The dress up days for that week will be, Monday: winter wonderland, Tuesday: PJ party, Wednesday: sweater day, Thursday: flannel day and Friday: candy cane day.
The girls and boys varsity soccer teams went head to head in two games of dodgeball after the theme of the dance was announced. The boys team won both games, but the girls hung in there for an extended period of time before accepting defeat.
After the match, the dance appreciation team performed a remix of “Say So,” “Options” and “Like That” by Doja Cat. They had no problem capturing the audience’s attention and showing off their skills.
Junior host, Izzy Marie, says “My favorite part would definitely be the dance appreciation team. I loved their set list.”
The hosts wrapped up the pep rally by encouraging students to purchase their tickets for the dance. Winter formal will be on February 10th at Hangar 21 from 7-10 p.m.
