Varsity athlete Kloe Escobar (12) is captain of the Aliso Niguel girls water polo team. This season the girls water polo team is dominating in the water while having a 14-6 win rate so far this season.
Escobar is a utility player for the girls team and uses her skills in many different positions on the field, but she primarily plays on offense as an attacker. Escobar developed a love for the sport at a young age and has been playing water polo since she was seven years old.
When asked what inspired her to start playing water polo at such a young age, Escobar shared, “both my older brothers played so I just kind of followed in their footsteps and started playing too.”
Escobar made the varsity water polo team her freshman year and has been a part of the team every year since. Last year, she was the assistant captain of the team and proved herself to be a beneficial leader, earning her the position of head captain this year.
Escobar is highly admired by her teammates for her strength on the field and for her contributions to the team.
Varsity water polo player Kate Burkitt (10) states, “Kloe’s strong leadership skills inspire and motivate the team. She always does what is the best for our team. She plays a pivotal role in driving out success and creating a winning team culture”
As captain of the girls team, Escobar works hard to encourage the team to perform to the best of their ability.
Emily Lynch (12) comments, “Kloe always gives pregame talks and knows exactly what to say to get us pumped up. She is also a great role model for the rest of the girls because of her determination and hard work.”
Lynch also states, “[Kloe] is always the first to be there when any of us are having an off day… she makes sure everyone feels appreciated and gets their moment to shine.”
The Aliso girls water polo team is ranked division three and has high hopes for CIF this year. The team hopes to use their teamwork and skills to accomplish their goals this season.
Escobar says, “I think our team chemistry has definitely developed really well over the past couple months. It’s been so much fun and I think we have a great dynamic in the water which really helps us as a team.”
When asked what her biggest accomplishment has been during her time on the girls water polo team at Aliso, Escobar shares that making the first team for the Sea View all league last year was her biggest accomplishment.
Escobar says that, although she is happy to be a senior, “It’s really bittersweet” to know that this will be her last year playing on the varsity team for Aliso. She shares that she is happy to have been a part of such a great team throughout her high school career.
