ASB works hard to provide students with fun activities; here’s what ASB has planned for the Spring Semester of 2024.
This semester will bring a host of new and recurring events for Aliso Niguel’s students. ASB began their events with their Pep Rally on January 19, 2024.
The Pep Rally is an event in the school auditorium used to celebrate and build student excitement for the upcoming Winter Formal Dance.
For the Pep Rally, students will be excused from Wolverine+ and classes will all be five minutes shorter. This is to ensure time for the school day’s main event. Students will be dismissed from class in one of either two waves, depending on the location of their third period class.
The Pep Rally will mainly be centered around the unveiling of the theme for the dance. ASB spends a lot of time setting up the main gymnasium in order to make the event special for students. Lights, music and decorations are all sourced by ASB members, but most importantly, the ASB representatives for each class speak directly with the school.
In addition to the announcement of the Winter Formal Theme, Aliso’s athletes also perform music numbers. Dance team, Cheer team, and Aliso Niguel’s Marching Band fill the event with energy.
Also on Friday 19, the Aliso boy’s basketball game follows after school that night. This event will also be run by ASB students, meant to build even more eagerness around Winter Formal.
Moving into later in the semester, ASB has chosen to bring Keith Hawkings back for another year. Kieth visited Aliso Niguel last year, delivering a heartfelt speech in order to bring Aliso closer together. This year he will return in order to spread the same message with help from ASB.
The Wolverine Showcase is another event students have to look forward to this semester. In this event, sports will be able to advertise their seasons to Aliso Niguel’s students. Allocated their own booths, students can ask questions about whatever sports they are interested in. This event is meant to endorse the sports coming season, starting this semester or next year.
Lastly, ASB is holding an 8th Grade Expo for incoming freshmen. While this may seem unimportant for those already attending Aliso Niguel High School, this event is crucial for the future of the school. The expo will be held in order to introduce 8th graders to what school they will be attending in the near future.
Last semester also had many successful ASB events, most being the Friday lunchtime events. These smaller scale activities are held in the junior area on Fridays. Tyler Vovan (11), ASB Sound Director, said the activities main goal is to raise school spirit and “have something for people to do.”
Last semester’s most successful Friday events were the Karaoke and the Holiday Cookie Making event.
These events really do help improve school spirit. Andrew Wutka (11) said that, “I like them, but I don’t really participate in them.”
Aliso Niguel’s Associated Student Body, ASB, works hard to pack our school years full of fun and memorable events, giving students a lot to look forward to this spring semester.
