Garrett Trayer is a senior at Aliso Niguel High School and is one of three captains on Aliso Varsity Basketball. Many players on the team look up to him on and off the court.
Garrett Trayer has been playing basketball since he was eight years old and he knew at an early age that he wanted to play in high school and become a leader. He started playing on the Varsity team for Aliso Niguel about 10 games into his sophomore year.
Garrett (12) says “Some goals that I hoped to achieve this year were to win 20 games and to win a tournament which we accomplished in Palm Springs.” Garrett also wanted to win the league and make the playoffs which they also were able to pull off this year.
There are a lot of responsibilities that come with being team captain and one of them is making sure the team is focused and ready when stepping on the court.
Trayer (12) says “I need to make sure that the team is focused and ready in the right moments but also to be an older brother to the younger players on the team and to make sure that they are comfortable in situations that I have already been through and learned from.”
Garrett hopes that he can motivate the team as much as possible so they can be ready to play and prepare for the games.
Garrett being the captain means that many players look up to him but he also has people that he looks up to, a couple of them being former players at Aliso Niguel High School.
Trayer (12) says “Some people that I look up to are my former teammates and captains Tyler Weaver and Brandon Novida and I try to take those experiences that I have remembered and learned from and apply them to situations with the current team.”
Aliso Niguel Basketball has had a great year so far and they are going to continue to come together as a team and be there for each other. Garrett hopes that the team can work their hardest and practice to the best of their abilities.
