Aliso Niguel has always shined a light on stellar students and attentive faculty, but now, a program called Wolverine Spotlight, run and operated by ASB, is recognizing talented and hard-working Wolverines on social media.
Submissions for nominating a weekly Wolverine are accepted on a rolling basis through a Google form that teachers and students can fill out. The form to nominate a fellow Wolverine can be found in the weekly Wolverine Instagram bio.
Mrs. Ross, the activities director of Aliso Niguel states, “Some of our kids suggested the idea of student recognitions,” after seeing some other schools recognize special students and staff, “and [they] wanted to find a way to highlight some of Aliso Niguel’s athletes, artists or staff members on campus who don’t always get the teacher of the year award; they’re just everyday people doing great things and we wanted to give them a shoutout.”
Aliso Niguel recognizes students in other ways too, besides just showcasing them on the Wolverine Spotlight Instagram page. Students whom their teachers nominated have the chance to participate in the student of the semester activities next Wednesday, in which they can enjoy a free lunch in the big gym. Students who are nominated for student of the semester will be notified at the beginning of next week through email.
Aliso Niguel also recognizes different categories of people at the school, with a couple of students from ASB in charge of each department. These categories include student recognition, staff recognition, visual and performing arts and athlete recognition.
Mrs. Ross also encourages ASB members to support students who are engaging in the community and pursuing their passions by requiring that every member attend two arts events a semester and by motivating ASB to cheer athletes on during home and away games as much as possible.
Mrs. Ross says that anyone at Aliso Niguel can nominate students or faculty for the Wolverine spotlight: “The nomination link is in the Instagram bio on the account. If you decide tonight that ‘I really like my friend, I think she’s doing really great things and I want to give her a shoutout, you’ll be able to do that, and our team will be able to reach out to that student and notify them that they have been nominated. Nominated students will send an approved picture to be posted on the Instagram page.”
Asal Flodius (12) says, “I think the Wolverine spotlight is a great way to recognize students and teachers who are doing a good job and helping them feel like they are appreciated for their contributions to the school and the community. I will definitely nominate some of my friends for the weekly Wolverine because it is a fun way to show support for people and be seen on Instagram for their hard work.
Aliso Niguel’s weekly Wolverine is a great way for students and staff to be recognized for their efforts in their specific areas of interest. Whether it is in athletics or the arts, every wolverine can be recognized for their talents and passion, and ASB’s implementation of an Instagram page to honor this principle is one way to do this.
