On Dec. 7 and 8, Aliso Niguel’s dance team held their annual winter performance.
The performance contained various numbers from the dance team, Dance Appreciation, Capo Valley’s dance team, San Juan Hills’ dance team, local dance studios and even the Aliso’s P.E. dance class.
Mrs. Desiano, Aliso’s dance team coach as well as the P.E. teacher for dance, is in charge of the performance and puts together several numbers with her fellow coaches, Anthony Tuason, Caitlin Brophy and Rona Shahabi.
Mrs. Desiano has dedicated her life to dance and being able to share this art with others
“For me, I can see how other people feel that love and I have that connection with dancers of all ages.” Dessiano shares.
The performance carried several amazing numbers, including one with all of the seniors from each individual dance team where they performed a parody of dances.
Dance team Captain Dana Smith (12), says, “Dance means everything to me, it means having endless storytelling capabilities through movement.”
Smith also shares, “Being on the Dance Team has taught me how to persevere through adversity and how to strive for competitive greatness”.
During the showcase of dances, Mrs. Desiano welcomed her dance team alumni to join the performance in a fun, upbeat number to “Uptown Funk”
The performance also invited several students from local studios to join and share an expressive story through dance.
Several studios including, Aniar Irish Dance Academy, Capistrano Academy of Dance and Jameson Dance Academy were able to showcase some of their dances at the event.
Also featured in the performance were Claire Devine, Dylan Devine, Hayden Calder and a little “Diva Trio”.
Mrs. Desiano included her P.E. Dance Class in the mix of performances to allow those who have never danced on a stage or in front of an audience to get the chance to do so.
Nahla Lemtouni (10), a student in the P.E. class, shared, “Dancing means to me, letting your free spirit and your creativity just flow out of you and just expressing it through the movements of the human body. This dance class has taught me that I can do whatever I want, and I can be whoever I want to be and I can slay on the dance floor.”
Desiano creates a positive outlet where young women and men can come together, feel heard and express themselves through the art of dance.
Every moment of the dances performed was deliberate and every step taken was perfectly timed. The dancers effortlessly conveyed a range of emotions through their graceful gestures and powerful expressions.
The art of dance is a captivating blend of technique, creativity and storytelling. Every dancer has the power to transport the audience to another world.
In dance, words are unnecessary as every little emotion is expressed through this language of movement. Desiano and her beautiful dancer brought people together as a community to showcase this joy and beauty that we call dance.
