Aliso Niguel High School hosted their annual pajama drive on Dec. 1 and a pajama dress-up day for the students to get in the spirit of donating and the beginning of Winter.
Aliso Niguel High School partners up with Laura’s House Association to help children in need of new sleeping wear and gifts for the holidays.
Laura’s House is a non-profit, local organization that makes this pajama drive possible.
Students and staff are greatly encouraged to donate new pajamas for infants through teens. Any design is allowed, either holiday or plain patterns and sets were highly recommended.
To promote this event and ensure a successful outcome, ASB made sure to include it in the daily announcements before and after thanksgiving break. A blast was put on canvas and numerous emails were sent out to parents, students and staff.
ASB director Mrs. Ross said, “It is important to promote events like these as much as possible so that many students will participate and we can get as many donations as possible”.
The ASB teams designed posters to put around the school and many flyers boosting the drive were seen in the hallways, in classrooms and throughout the school.
The purpose of wearing pajamas on Friday was to promote the drive and generate more donations. Students or staff were directed to drop off pajamas to the front office on Friday, but late entries were accepted since counting and organizing the pajamas would be a long process.
James Garcia (10) said, “I donated a pair of pajamas and had an excuse to wear a pair of my own to school, which was fun”.
Likish Velineni (11), senior director of recognition in ASB and member in charge of the drive, said, “The drive went very well this year! We got over four tubs of pajamas, all varying in age divisions”.
Statistically, people donate mostly toddlers and children pajamas more than teens, but a good amount was still included.
Kristy Kim (11) member of ASB who helped lead the drive said, “I was shocked at how many pajamas we got this year, we’ve been doing this drive all of the years I have been in High School and it’s a great event since we are doing a good deed for the community.”
As the cold weather is around the corner, cozy warm pajamas will be greatly appreciated by the children who receive them. The Aliso Niguel High School pajama drive was a huge success and had a positive impact on the community as well as the students.
