The ANHS We Care Club is a service club that provides students with volunteer opportunities when in need of service hours or would like to help others. Club President Eunnie Wu (12) and Vice President Leilah Lucas (12) strive to use volunteer work as a way for students to make a positive impact on their community.
The We Care Club was established at the start of the 2022-2023 school year, and was founded by the curren board office members Eunnie Wu (12) and Leilah Lucas (12). Eunnie and Leilah volunteered throughout their sophomore year, which motivated them to make a club that brings people together in order to serve the community.
Club President Eunnie Wu (12) supports her club: “People should join the We Care Club because it’s a great way to give back to the community. It’s important because we’re directly serving people food and organizing for the future.”
Generally, We Care Club members volunteer at the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen in Costa Mesa on Sundays. They consistently volunteer at this very same soup kitchen, giving all devoted members the chance to become familiar with the place for volunteering. Along with that, We Care Club members volunteer there every month, so there is always a chance next month if a new volunteer misses the monthly volunteer opportunity.
Club member Stephen LaRocca (12) speaks about his experience about being a club member “I enjoy being able to help others who are suffering under circumstances different from my own. I think more people should join the club to help spread positivity throughout the students of Aliso Niguel.”
At the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen, We Care Club volunteers mostly cook either breakfast or lunch for people in need. Members may also organize food boxes for the “Farmer’s Market” where food and supplies, such as clothes, are distributed to. Students then disperse to three different areas to carry out their jobs: outside to organize the food and transfer food boxes, inside to cook food like eggs and fruit salad in the kitchen and another area inside the soup kitchen to directly serve food to guests.
Eunnie wishes on behalf of her club, “For the future, I’m hoping this club continues to be active even after I graduate. Also, even though we usually volunteer on a Sunday, we’re looking to make a Saturday option too, with this November being our first volunteer day on a Saturday.”
The ANHS We Care Club holds efficient and quick meetings, depending on club members who may have any questions or would like to spend time with their peers, in Ms. Rose’s room, which is Room 106. For those who can not attend the meeting, all information is on a google form the officers send out every month and posted on their Instagram @anhs.we.care.club. As a club that benefits all, the We Care Club plans to continue to broaden students’ perspectives as they volunteer at the local soup kitchen, learning about people in Orange County and their needs.
